’26 RB/LB had a huge night against Muhlenberg Central in the opener
Tyson Martin is a prospect we have spilt some ink on previously. In the opener against Muhlenberg Central, a 56-44 win for the Colonels in which virtually no defense was played, Martin had a huge night. Should the 6’1,” 190-pounder continue with these type efforts going forward, there will be quite a bit of post-season honorariums in his future we would wager.

John Henderson won the Outland Trophy at Tennessee then went on to a long and successful career in the NFL at DT. What convinced me he would be a football star when he was a prep player at Nashville, Tennessee’s Pearl-Cohn High was watching him play a basketball game.
There is no where to hide in a basketball uniform. Your passing the eye test in a tank top and shorts versus padded up are two completely different propositions.
Kind of like Caverna’s Tyson Martin, Henderson was a big, chiseled athlete no matter how he was dressed. We have included a photo of Martin in his varsity basketball uniform to highlight that very characteristic.
While Martin is a basketball player of considerable acclaim; make no mistake, his future appears to be on the gridiron. Martin is 6’1,” 190-pounds. Martin is a class of ’26 prospect who carries a 3.5-GPA.
We can virtually sense the in-KY programs salivating over his measurements and academic attainments. They are beginning to circle around this prospect like buzzards on fresh road-kill.
Against Muhlenberg Central, Martin had a tremendous night. Martin rushed the football 14-times, gained 190-yards rushing, scored three (3) TDs on the ground while scoring 28-points (total) on the evening. With three (3) rushing TDs, a pick-six housed from 35-yards out, and a pair of two-point conversions, Martin was a three phase point machine against the Mustangs.
Had all his accomplishments been on the offensive side of the football, we would have, still, published this feature. Martin was a long way from a one-sided juggernaut on opening night.
Martin registered 8-tackles, a 35-yard pick-six, and scored two (2), two point conversions on special teams. Making contributions in all three (3) phases of a football game for a 1A team opening against a 5A football program is especially noteworthy and thrilling.
Caverna has a tough Adair County team tonight at a neutral site. Coach Steve Stonebraker’s squad is fresh off an opening victory over Russell County, 22-16.
Both teams enter the contest 1-0. One team will leave Marion County’s field with its first blemish on the ’24 season. Just think; one of these weekends, Caverna may actually pick on a program its own size. When that happens, there is no telling what the inimitable Mr. Martin may end up contributing to the stat-line.
