When guys like this win, it feels like we all win. This is a kid we have been praising and featuring through the years since coming on line. He has earned a scholarship offer to a Division I program which is also one of the country’s most elite institutions of high learning, and its second oldest. The two young men whose pictures are attached to this article and published on the front page of the magazine will be in next month’s Future Stars Classic QBing Tennessee and Kentucky. Joshuah Keith is an athlete and QB with physical skills which would make him exceptional were he a senior in HS. He’s presently a 7th grader. Old Coach Lyon didn’t know anything about this kid and couldn’t learn anything either through conventional techniques so I asked Coach Long if he wouldn’t lend a hand. Lucky for KPGFootball, Long was able to get Director Hughes who couldn’t be quiet about the kid and his abilities. It would appear this kid is the total package at the TE position. There is an ongoing debate in Kentucky as to whether Carson Wright or Oscar “JT” Adams is the very best LB in Kentucky in the Class of 2023. Well, old Coach Lyon isn’t sure he can resolve that debate for you other than to say both teams set to add either to its roster this coming Fall is mighty fortunate. Today we will spill some more ink over Carson Wright and are equally sure we will come back and spill ink on JT Adams on down the road. Both of these young men, in Team Kentucky’s defensive second level, spell trouble for Tennessee’s intermediate passing game or its run from scrimmage hopes (for that matter), that is for sure.
Not every player who would have made the Future Stars team tried out this year. There were some fairly glaring omissions from the rosters. One of the more glaring omissions was a player we call around the magazine C-Squared, Christian Conyers from Bowling Green, Kentucky. In honor of the upcoming Kentucky-Tennessee Future Stars Classic, we thought we would honor a Madisonville area middle schooler. We have already awarded this award to Jordan Miles who made Team Kentucky as a DB. We thought why not award it to Anias MItchell, who is an Alternate and isn’t quite on the team yet but has certainly shown he belongs in unique company when it comes to playing the game of football.
Isaac Sowells, Jr. is another example of an acorn which didn’t fall far from its tree. Isaac Sowell, Sr., played 27 ball games for the Hoosiers at IU, was selected in the 4th round of the NFL draft and played in the League for several years. Little Sowells, who won’t be little for very long, will certainly spike various aspects of Team Kentucky Future Stars (6th) fortunes this coming Summer. Ever heard of dynamite coming in small packages? Here’s a guy not quite 5-feet tall who has been selected to both Team Kentucky Future Stars and to the FBU National Elite Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana. He has shone both places from what we hear. Kid will line up at receiver and if you blink, Tennessee, he’ll be gone. He will come up big for HMS next Fall too. Meet Treston Kay. You know the drill; better get it around today while it’s free because tomorrow it goes behind the paywall.
Ever heard the song “The Freaks Come Out at Night?” Well, the nighttime isn’t the only time you’ll see anatomical freaks during Future Stars season. They will be everywhere up and down the field wearing both orange and blue. There will be none any more impressive than Morgan County’s Jason Perry, or at least that is our wager.
