Morgan County’s Jason Perry strikes quite the pose for Team Kentucky’s 7th-grade Future Stars team

We have tried to explain, until we are practically blue in the face, the difference between a “run of the mill” seventh grade football player and what one will see dotting the roster of a Team Kentucky Future Stars. Not all seventh grade football players are equally created, if you catch our drift.

For instance, how many rosters can boast of having a 6-1, 247-pound football player on the roster who is a Class of 2024 prospect? Now, factor in the reality this prospect dead-lifts 450-pounds and bench presses 240-pounds while having not yet enrolled in the 8th grade. How many 7th graders in the commonwealth of Kentucky fit that description? Hold on, we aren’t quite finished yet.

On top of everything we have above published, the kid is fast, quick, and agile enough to play fullback on his middle school team’s offense while being mainly deployed defensively at MLB. Throw in the fact that Perry has, at one time or another, been deployed at virtually every single position for his team up and down the lines of scrimmage and is capable of switching positions at any point during a football game. Kind of reminds you of the musician on the midway at the county fair who plays seven instruments at once, doesn’t it?

Now, to further illustrate his versatility, you remember us telling you he mostly deployed at fullback and MLB back home in Morgan County, right? Well, Ricco Hughes has selected him to play along either the OL or the DL. The reason for our confusion stems from the two positions not being segregated for purposes of the roster we published this past Sunday. Our guess is he will play along the defensive front from the three technique on out to the 7, as an upfield, pass rush guy.

Perry, described by many around Morgan County as a quiet kid…a thinker, has a dad who has coached Perry since kindergarten. Many people believe his living in and around a football coach and fanatic has leant itself to his versatility. We assure the reader it certainly hasn’t hurt.

Regardless, one has to marvel at a 7th grader who at 6-1, 247-pounds is still mobile enough to deploy at FB, or defensively along the second level, while being the biggest player on the field for most of Morgan County’s games. That being the “biggest player on the field” only relates to his middle school football team back in Morgan County. That shouldn’t be extended to the Future Stars game where he will encounter physical freaks, much like how he is described.

In the Future Stars game, Perry won’t be the biggest player, even in the 7th grade game, let us assure you. Will he be the only 450-pound puller and 240-pound bencher in the game? We don’t know but don’t think it likely.

KPGFootball will tell you this, however; in a game known for showcasing “physical anomalies” at a tender age of development, it’s nice to know, as a Team Kentucky fan, we’ll have our freaks on hand just like they will. We would hate to be out-freaked by a bunch of Tennesseans. What would the home folks say?
