KPGFootball’s Preseason Top-Five (2A)

It is that time of year. It is time to start figuring which teams, entering the ’25 season, figure to factor in the title chase. We have detailed what we think here and it is based on our study of the incoming, ’25 rosters, what players return, what players graduated, and other various factors we have perfected through the years to render such predictions. We plan to do this for all of Kentucky’s six classifications and there is no guarantee we will go in order from the top down, or the bottom to the top. There are good football teams in the KHSAA and there are bad ones and those teams span all of the six classes. Enjoy today’s look at 2A. Keep checking back as we may drop another class any time we feel like it.

I know we just featured this kid, but it isn’t uncommon for us to feature a kid and turn immediately around and send him some protein. Check the historical record. it has been before done. This kid’s achievements in the weight room alone, and the hard work he has put in during his off-seasons, is enough to warrant this type recognition. We are here to encourage and reward these exact type efforts. Kris Hughes is a “Dude.” If you are unfamiliar with that term and its meaning, you need to read our book. There is a link at the bottom of his article. Hughes scored 29-TDs in multiple phases of the game in ’24 as a junior. He picked a pair of passes, housing one for a “pick-six.” He is also the 5th leading rusher and scorer in Somerset history and we are talking about one of the more accomplished histories in the KHSAA. What will he do for an encore? He just may win ’25’s Mr. Football, that’s what. There are some mighty good football teams standing at 0-2 around the commonwealth of Kentucky. Largely, it all depends on whom you have played. For instance, Central High (Lou.), Pikeville, and Lexington Christian Academy are all 0-2. We promise you, none of the three are “throwing in the towel.” The boys from Russell Springs, Kentucky are in the same class. They are 0-2 but have opened with two mighty tough teams and look to get off that “schneid” this evening, at home, when John Hine’s Cardinals come a’calling. Enjoy the feature.

Well, today seemed like as good a day as any to continue the tradition. Since KPGFootball started with the top classification when picking district winners, this time we started with Class 1A.
