Tanner Wright, wanting to get back into the game

RB has been out of football a while, but ready for a big return

Tanner Wright is a 5’10,” 180-pound athlete who knows something about playing top-shelf football, particularly with the ball in his hands sprinting down a football field. He prepped at Southwestern High, one of Kentucky’s better 5A programs. Wright has taken a year off from football and believes that is enough. He is self-described as “hungry to play the game again” and we believe he should get that shot.

Highlights

When last we saw Tanner Wright carrying a football he was thrilling us with his ability and penchant for scoring rushing TDs. He last played for Southwestern High in Somerset, KY and the Indians are among the toughest 5A draws one can get in the KHSAA.

Over Wright’s senior season, the All-State RB carried the football 192-times, gained 1,681-yards, and scored 27-TDs. He had 22-tackles on defense and scored 170-points in leading his team to a 13-1 finish and a regional title.

Breaking those numbers down a bit, Wright averaged eight and three-quarter (8.75) yards a carry. Wright scored a TD every seventh carry and some change.

Those are solid numbers. No wonder he was selected to the All-State football team his senior season.

Somehow, Wright thought he would put his football career behind him and focus on being a student. Guess what? You guessed it; Wright misses the action.

After taking a year off from football, I have decided I am hungry to play the game again

Tanner Wright

Wright published to one of his social media platforms that, “After taking a year off from football, I have decided I am hungry to play the game again.” Wright promises, “I will be looking to transfer after the spring semester to pursue this…”

We believe the young man should be taken at his word. We believe it would be a very wise call for a program looking for top-shelf talent.

What are you waiting for? Pick up the phone; timing seems just about Wright.
