’26 ATH should NOT be discounted among ’25 “Mr. Football” candidates
Kris Hughes is exactly for what a coach looks when searching for value, versatility, production, toughness, and overall “Dude-ness!” Hughes scored 29-TDs in ’24 as a junior. Hughes averaged 5.8-yards a carry, picked a pair of passes, housed a pick-six, was the 5th leading rusher in Somerset program history and its 5th leading scorer. Simply put, this guy here is going to get it done for you regardless of where he finds himself deployed or how he is used. That, ladies and gentlemen, is a freaking Dude!

Ronnie Mingua began experimenting with making beef jerky back in the 1990s. He shared his efforts with neighbors and friends, soon realizing he had come up with something different and superior to all other beef jerkies on the market. From these humble beginnings, Mingua Beef Jerky got its start.
Today, the Mingua Beef Jerky Company still prides itself on using its old-fashioned, all-natural recipes which offer outstanding products to customers across the nation. The recipes are a family tradition, passed down from generation to generation.
Our recipes and our quality ingredients, hand-cut from solid pieces of beef, are never chopped or formed like other brands, making our products superior and one of a kind. That would make our products similar to this week’s Protein-packed Performer, Kris Hughes, ’26 ATH from Somerset High in Somerset, Kentucky.

Somerset, KY: Kris Hughes is sitting 5th all time in both rushing yards and scoring. Hughes still has a season ahead of him to climb that latter even further.

When you are talking versatility and utility, it is hard to imagine a player more exactly filling that bill. Hughes scored 29-touchdowns for his team in ’24.
Hughes registered 287-carries, 1651-yards and 24-rushing TDs. Hughes swung out of the backfield and collected 36-receptions for 308-yards and 3-TDs.
Hughes was his team’s leading scorer, scoring TDs rushing (24), receiving (3), on a pick six (1), and on an “other” (1), for 174-points or 12.4 pts. per game. Hughes averaged 5.8-yards per rushing attempt and all of that is just what he did on offense.
On defense, Hughes registered 55-tackles, 2-TFLs, 1-sack, 2-INTs for 83-IRNYs, and a pick six. That is tremendous value realized from only one kid.
Matter of fact, Hughes was the team’s leading scorer, leading rusher, and among its leaders for receptions, tackles, and interceptions. Simply put, Hughes was among the more lethal weapons, in multiple phases of the game, in the KHSAA at any level of competition over his junior season.
Hughes is 6’0,” and weighs 195-pounds. Hughes plays RB, works from the slot at WR, and plays FS on defense. Probably singular among his more impressive numbers is the 3.3-GPA he carries in the classroom.
Will he be in the “Mr. Football” discussion when the ’25 season commences? We believe he will.
Should he be? Let us put it as follows: he is firmly in our discussion.
Then again, what do we know?
