Most people thought Shelby Valley would emerge from the 8th-District as the champion in 2019. Well, most people couldn’t have been more in error. The season creeps up on us more and more daily. Monday, teams will be permitted to don what we call “shells” in football. Starting Monday, we will be putting on shoulder-pads to go along with the helmets we have been wearing since “Dead Period” ended. As the openers approach, one team we believe will be a favorite to win District 8 in Class 2A is Shelby Valley. Players returning like Dalton Meade is the reason why the prospects for the Wildcats from Pikeville, Kentucky look so rosy.
