Jim Matney was simply among the best high school football and wrestling coaches the Appalachias has ever produced. I had the privilege of getting to interact with him on several occasions as a newspaper editor of a 135 or more year old newspaper in Jackson, KY. Matney always made me feel like I was a big shot. Of course, I was sort of a big shot because I was hanging around him. Enjoy this look at an all-timer in the estimation of just about everyone.

Chase Flaherty is a baseball and football star at Beechwood High. Flaherty has been convincing this season as an all-state caliber running back as well as contributing on the defensive side of the football. Flaherty has this 17-time, KHSAA football champion firing on all cylinders as the season unwinds. Enjoy this feature and remember to both stop and smell the roses and #SavorTheFlavor.

There was a Blackburn kid who played at Paintsville High a few years back who was a fine player and a monster of a man. We have no idea of this particular Blackburn and he are related. However, we can confidently say the two of them share certain physical characteristics. This Blackburn (Braxton) is 6’3,” 275-pounds and sufficiently mobile to be a second level defender and the top returning tackler to the Bobcat defense. Enjoy the feature. Friday Night Fletch.
