’26 two-way prospect plays three sports for the Cardinals from Inez, KY

This guy’s prospects depend on how his frame finishes. We could almost write that for ever prospect in Kentucky’s rising sophomore class. Developing later than some of your classmate often turns out to be a positive. This guy plays in a couple varsity games a year ago as just a freshman. If he is as good as we believe, he will see that playing time increase substantially in ’23.

If it seems like we have been featuring a lot of Martin County guys, we would like to ask you a question. Does your team and/or you follow us on Twitter (@KPGFootball)?

Gavin Stepp is a ’26 prospect slotted to play WR/CB for the Cardinals from Inez, KY. Stepp got a couple games, Friday-night run in ’22 and made the most of it.

Stepp logged himself a tackle and the tackle was a “solo.” You know what we have before said many times, there are no small parts, just small actors.

Stepp has lots of “indicators” which suggest he won’t continue to be a small-batch contributor. Stepp is 5’8,” and 121-pounds but this is packed on a frame which appears to us to have quite a bit of lengthening and thickening yet to do.

Stepp carries a 4.0 GPA. Stepp also plays basketball and runs track at Martin County.

This is a “twitchy,” fast, explosive, coordinated, and versatile athlete. Stepp is an athlete with plenty of arrows in the quiver.

Whether this kid has next-level, college recruit-ability will heavily rely on his finding the playing surface over his sophomore campaign early and often. Recruiters will want to see game film on this guy to see if the goods match the frame.

We believe they will come away impressed. We’re making an “early” call here.
