KPGFootball’s Preseason Top-Five (5A) @bigassfans, @minguabeefjerky, @khsaafootball, @KyHighFootball

It is that time of year. It is time to start figuring which teams, entering the ’25 season, figure to factor in the title chase. We have detailed what we think here and it is based on our study of the incoming, ’25 rosters, what players return, what players graduated, and other various factors we have perfected through the years to render such predictions. We plan to do this for all of Kentucky’s six (6) classifications and there is no guarantee we will go in order from the top down, or the bottom to the top. There are good football teams in the KHSAA and there are bad ones and those teams span all of the six classes. Enjoy today’s look at 5A. Keep checking back as we may drop another class any time we feel like it.

Jordan Vaughn was a player we covered regularly when the ’20 OL was owning defenders around Madisonville North-Hopkins. Now the OL coach, who played for Murray State in college, is moving from the OL coach at South Hopkins (Coach Logan) up to the varsity program at Central. The lines of scrimmage are where championships are both won and lost. Central is bringing in a “big gun” in the hopes he provides the edge the program needs to take its next step. Enjoy the feature.

Tough night in Morton’s Gap as the matchup with North didn’t go as Central fans would have liked. However, there is still plenty of season left to go and the Storm has every reason to feel good about where it stands going forward heading toward district play. Enjoy this recap…FL.

Talk about a kid who, as a football prospect, literally has it all, take a look at Mickey Bailey. Bailey is 6’5,” 305-pound LT for the Maroons of Madisonville North-Hopkins (4A). Not only that, he may well be in line to become a rocket scientist. He made a 35 on his ACT. This kid is amazing. Enjoy the feature. FL.

Markezz Hightower is probably the best RB in Kentucky in the ’26 class. He comes from a line of RB’s we have featured and who have also won MVP in the Kentucky-Tennessee Future Stars Classic. Markezz is the little brother of Jeriah Hightower, who we covered ad nauseam when he was a prep RB for the Maroons before his moving on to play for EKU. Get on by one of our fine branches today and discover why Independence Bank’s people, products, and services have started a revolution in the Kentucky financial services industry. HB.

Marquezz Hightower is following in some mighty large footsteps. He had a relative who was an all-state football player for Madisonville North-Hopkins, led Kentucky in rushing yards his senior year, was a Kentucky Future Star MVP (like Marquezz), and went on to play for EKU. What will Marquezz do? Well, we don’t exactly know for sure but, for right now, he is running the heck out of that pill for the Maroons. Enjoy the feature. HB.
