Mason Gardner is 6A’s King of the End Zone. At least, that is what the statistics from ’22 tells us. This is a kid who put 172-points on the scoreboard in 12-games or 14.3-points per outing. Central Hardin narrowly lost its Regional Championship game to the team which eventually won it all. To say folks in Hardin County are excited to see what Gardner and crew will do in ’23 may be a bit of an understatement. Hagan Harrison was rumored injured. However, he looks “full go” to us the preseason. This is why we generally don’t report on injuries. Many of you have read “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll. That novel introduced many of us to the character, the Cheshire Cat, who is most known for his mischievous grin. There is another mischievous grin around the Richmond, Kentucky area and he has plenty of reason to be grinning. Is this team or that the best ever in Kentucky in its classification is heady and speculative talk. That aside, after the first four or so weeks of the season we have to wonder if LCA may not be the best 2A football team in Kentucky history? We believe the question is legitimate and fair. We picked this guy in 2019 as a Sophomore All-State defender. He followed up his sophomore season with another solid junior year in spite of playing fewer games because of the pandemic. This is an “out of frame” guy we would take a chance on were we working in the recruiting office at one of Kentucky’s 17-college football programs. This kid can play.
