Battle of the Regions was last month and the Future Stars will be coming up this summer. This is the time of year we learn there are some middle school ballers across Kentucky doing some incredible things. Brady Steward is a ’29 QB about whom plenty will be written before his high school years have been exhausted. Enjoy this feature about one of Kentucky’s best at this grade level. Friday Night Fletch.

We talk about ‘no doubters’ in football. Those are prospects who come from the middle school ranks likely or even destined to play, and play early, under the Friday Night Lights sometime over the course of their freshman seasons. We are very good at identifying those types. Our track record of correctly calling it before it happens is well documented. Well, Ty Phillips, from Webster County, looks like a ‘no doubter’ to us. Enjoy the feature. HB.

We are dealing with our grief. Each year we have to say good bye to another group of players we began covering when they were just middle schoolers. The best way to deal with the grief is to get right back up on that horse. Here is a player we are sure we will continue to cover over the course of his budding high school career beginning next season. If it is anything like what he accomplished in the KYMSFA, there will be quite a lot to cover. HB.

@clark_kissick from @WoodfordFBall looks to be another “No-Douter” to us. He also looks to have a very bright future… @minguabeefjerky @PrepSpin @KyHighFootball @1776Bank

It is not every day you have rising ninth-grade “Bigs” who appear destined to challenge for early playing time. Then again, not every program has them coming out of MS 6-3, 290, highly decorated at the level of play the player is leaving, and already being followed on Twitter by college programs intent on recruiting the young player in the “not too distant” future. Enjoy this look at an OL who figures to be among the best along the front in his high school graduating class (’25). HB.

The Battle of the Regions is this coming weekend and will be played at East and West Jessamine. This will be quite a spectacle and has taken the place of the old KYMSFA East vs. West game which used to be played annually in Frankfort, Kentucky on the campus of Kentucky State University. This won’t be a battle for the timid. Players in this bad boy better show up ready to rumble. We can’t wait. Enjoy the article. HB.

Logan Smith from Murray, Kentucky has already made the prestigious Bret Cooper Middle School Junior Academic All-American game and now he will participate in the KYMSFA’s “Battle of the Regions.” This is a ’26 kid on a hot streak. Enjoy this look at one of the top WR/DB combos in his graduating class across the commonwealth. HB.

We think about all the really great middle school signal callers we have before covered. How many of them performed well in HS? We can’t think of a single “miss.” There are dozens and dozens of examples here. Well, we think this kid, Cameron O’Hara from Boone County, Kentucky, is a #NoDoubter. He’s getting ready for the KYMSFA’s “Battle of the Regions” and we believe he will “bring it.” Enjoy this look at a ’26 those of you covering Kentucky football should definitely write down in your notebooks. HB.

Jace Hatfield, @RedhoundsFB, another #NoDoubter. @CMSredhounds @Minguabeefjerky @PrepSpin @KyHighFootball @1776Bank

If you can truly watch this kid’s film and walk up and stand toe to toe with him and think this kid is only an 8th-grader, then I just don’t know what to say. Kids coming out of middle school these days are looking like this more and more. Hate to pull an “in my day” but, in my day, we didn’t have kids in 8th grade this solid, this long, this athletic, this aggressive. We just didn’t. They have put out a ton of college talent around the Corbin program. Mark this one down as another one on the near horizon. There will be plenty of ink spilled on this kid. Among the statewide coverage, we were first. HB.

If you have been reading our weekly “Outstanding Performances…” articles, the series of articles should have impressed upon you how very difficult winning this award really is. We had another spectacular week where there were numerous performances any one of which would have been a fine performance to single-out. This week, the high schools were off and the middle schoolers seized center stage. No one on that level of play thrust himself into a commonwealth-wide discussion any more forcefully than this week’s Protein-packed Performer. What do we mean by this? Well, read the article and see! Enjoy the article and join us next week as we honor another worthy recipient. HB.
