This isn’t the story of a simple friar who became the patron saint of one of the larger metropolitan areas in the state of California. Ours is a story about a simple sophomore who entrenched himself in the lineup of the most storied and successful 2A football program on the western end of Kentucky. We expect a champions effort out of anyone representing Mayfield High and particularly if that person is named “Spacek.” There is a lot in a name we have come to believe. Ashby Spacek, ’25 center/tackle, will enter his senior campaign one of the more reliable, gifted, and physically imposing interior OL guys in the KHSAA. Let’s see if he lives up to the name. We have before said that no All-State Football Team gets them all. We have been in the All-State Football business for years and have never published a team without some glaring omissions we thought back and mused, “Man, we should have included him.” Well, it has happened again as Tre Jackson is a guy we wish we had included. Luckily, he’s a ’25 and we get a chance to evaluate him next Fall. Till then, we offer this gift box of award winning, all-beef jerky product and a sweet T-shirt. Jaylen Bass is a guy who, were he a few inches taller, would be one of the more coveted LG’s in the country among High School ’24’s. Dan Goble, a man whose teams terrorized the 4A classification when it was know in Kentucky as “big boy football” for 11-years has gained enshrinement into the KHSAA’s Hall of Fame Class of 2023. The magazine championed this cause. It numbers prominently among our greatest achievements.
