Talk about an exceptional athlete, the Kentucky high school ranks may not have one superior to Blake Birchfield. He is a guy who pitches in and helps his ball club every conceivable way. Mingua Beef Jerky admires people like that. They feed and clothe people like that too. Join us next week as we award this to another worthy player. HB.

For those caught up on classification, @PikevilleHSFB (1A) travels to Lexington to play @HCHSDevilsFB (6A) Friday night. We pick the winner right here… @minguabeefjerky @PrepSpin @KyHighFootball @1776Bank

We have been telling you for years the enrollment of the high school has very little to do with how good of a football team it has in Kentucky. Well, tomorrow night, we suppose Pikeville High School (1A) will make the point for us when they travel to play Lexington’s Henry Clay High School (6A). This game won’t be close and it won’t be the team from Kentucky’s smallest classification feeling the effect of Friday night on Saturday morning. Enjoy the look brought to you like only KPGFootball can do it. HB.

The Return of “Big Baby,” and now he’s all grown up…

March 9, 2020 Henry Lyon 0

We used to call him “Big Baby” around the magazine when he was killing it down in the MS ranks as a valuable member of Team Kentucky. We hear he has grown up and we know he is back on the Kentucky side of the line dividing West Virginia and the Bluegrass. It will be fun to see him now that he is all grown up. We know Pikeville is also excited. HB Lyon.

We love the offseason at KPGFootball. Judging by our “visits” statistic, so do many of you. We have more viewership in the offseason than in-season. We are willing to bet you readers (or advertisers) would have never guessed that! It is a time of rejuvenation, a time of hope, a […]

Ten Freshmen Who Will Play

July 9, 2018 Fletcher Long 0

I remember it like it was yesterday. To be accurate it was only last year. Coach Craig Clayton had just gotten hired at Hoptown High School and he called me as the two of us have gone back quite a ways. Fletcher, listen, I know William is a good player but […]

Kentucky’s Future Stars Combine in Glasgow, Kentucky

April 14, 2018 Fletcher Long 1

While I enjoyed my assignment as special correspondent to the Tennessee Future Stars at the Nashville Combine, last week, for Tennessee Gridiron Scouting, it was nice to get back on familiar territory around my Kentucky family. Ricco Hughes moved the combine, which was initially to be in Bowling Green, down the road to […]
