We are inching closer to the end of our offseason coverage not really discussing players of the week so much as discussing featured players and prospects. Jackson Wyatt is simply among the best multi-phase football talents in the Kentucky-wide, KHSAA football game today at the 4A level and in the ’29 graduating class. Wyatt came to the Calloway County High roster under new leadership and Coby Lewis has gone about developing some of the commonwealth’s most talented players. Wyatt has done nothing but confirm we were all right about him and Wyatt is only going to improve over his sophomore season, particularly on offense where he should get many more opportunities. Wyatt is the kind of kid coaches want to coach and, in the end, that may be the finest compliment which can be paid to him (or any other kid). Enjoy the feature.

Murray High had a tremendous signal caller in 2025 who has moved on to the Murray State Racers and will now play on Saturdays. Still, Melvin Cunningham has built an enviable program while at Murray High and his Tigers figure to be in the title chase again in 2026. Lots of big-bodies on that Tiger roster. Lots of athletes on that Tiger roster. There is even a transfer from Dresden, TN who comes to town well thought of, successful, and much ballyhooed for his prior on-field successes. HIs name should be familiar to you. It is Bruce Willis, the same as the Hollywood “leading man,” Bruce Willis. This guy is a load, plays QB, lists MLB as his defensive position (which should tell the reader something of his demeanor and disposition), and is equally dangerous breaking down defenses with his arm or his legs. We generally go back and republish some articles during the Dead Period. This is the last day of Dead Period and it is full throttle to the opener from here until opening weekend. We are excited about what has been a thrilling offseason. We have accomplished quite a lot this offseason not the least of which has been our publishing the most decorated and distributed book on the topic of Kentucky High School football in Kentucky history. Miles Hollon is a rare commodity among ’28 QBs. While many of them are selling “potential,” he’s selling production. How many QBs throw for close to 4,000 yards with around 50-thrown TDs entering their junior seasons? You can count them on less than a single hand. Hollon’s frame and growth potential are big pluses for him as he is today’s feature and a guy who has won almost every award one can bestow.

We are perilously close to beginning the ’26 season in earnest. The Dead Period is days away from terminating and the end of Dead Period up until the opener is mandatory preparation, mandatory practice. We will be scrambling around ranking teams, ranking players, and beginning campaigns for players to make post season, all-this, all-that.
