Strongman and championship powerlifter to run strength and conditioning at Central
His name is “Derek Stone” and he is aptly named. He has accomplished quite a bit on the strongman circuit and in powerlifting. Now, he is being brought in to fashion the Storm’s offseason regimen into a program which builds old fashioned hurting bombs on its opponents this coming Fall. Stone is technically the head girls’ strength and conditioning coach. Although Stone will be serving primarily as the head girl’s coach, Stone will also be hired as an assistant football coach and will help improve the strength and conditioning program for football in addition to his duties to other sports programs around the school. This is just the latest example of how this program is being carefully constructed for long-term success.

Morton’s Gap, KY: The actor’s name was Tony Burton. He had actually been a boxer, in real life, prior to playing a former boxer (and trainer) in the Rocky movie series.

His character’s name was Tony Evers. In Rocky, Tony Evers was called “The Duke” or just “Duke.”
There was a poignant scene in Rocky Balboa, movie number six in the series, where a “well past his prime” Rocky Balboa accepts a match to box the world’s heavyweight champion, Mason “The Line” Dixon. Balboa goes to a former nemesis and former trainer, Duke, to get in shape for the fight.
Duke tells his aging fighter, “You know all there is to know about fighting, so there’s no sense us going down that same old road again. To beat this guy, you need speed – you don’t have it. And your knees can’t take the pounding, so hard running is out. And you got arthritis in your neck, and you’ve got calcium deposits on most of your joints, so sparring is out.”
Duke finishes with, “So, what we’ll be calling on is good ol’ fashion blunt force trauma. Horsepower. Heavy-duty, cast-iron, piledriving punches that will have to hurt so much they’ll rattle his ancestors. Every time you hit him with a shot, it’s gotta feel like he tried kissing the express train. Yeah! Let’s start building some hurtin’ bombs!”

How did it work? Go see the movie.
How’s it going to work at Hopkins County Central? With the “Duke” Central has brought in to employ the plan, we are very optimistic.
Stone is officially the head girls coach. However it is anticipated he will be hired as an assistant football coach. Stone’s addition will help improve the strength and conditioning program of many of the sports at Central, to include the football program.
Football is a game which employs “…good, old fashioned, blunt force trauma.” Newly minted Coach Stone knows quite a bit about that.
Stone is a regular on the strongman competition circuit and an accomplished powerlifter. We have included a video of him ripping reps at 405-pounds on the bench press. Check out these reps.

Stone is a guy who benefits a football program in a variety of ways. First of all, he understands strength and how to build it.

More importantly than that, Stone understands blunt force trauma. Stone understands explosion, how to build power, and how to build “hurtin’ bombs.”
In a game which is mostly about blunt force trauma, and its delivery, having a Stone around out of which to fashion your football team, seems rather shrewd and handy. Once might say it is even the appropriate building material.
Let’s get ready Storm Chasers. We will (in short order) have a different looking football team…
