’25 RB with a huge night in the Colonels win over Eastern

David Turner turned it on Friday Night against an Eastern Team which owns victories already this season over Butler (Louisville), Fairdale (Lou.), and Bullitt Central. In other words, this edition of the Eastern High team has proven solid. How good is Oldham County sitting there, seven games into the season, riding a 6-1 with a two point loss to South Oldham the only thing between it and perfection? We will try to answer that very question.

Buckner, KY: There is an easy way to describe David Turner’s performance against Eastern High (Lou.) from this past Friday night’s 47-0 pasting. Oldham County elected to give this senior defender the football and the results were…

“Lights out” comes readily to mind. “Dominant” is another term easy for us to produce in regard to Turner’s game with Eastern. “Unexpected” may also be appropriate, as the senior entered the game having carried it four times(4) times, so far in ’24, for 22-yards.

That is the glory of high school football. Sometimes a star’s effort, and a star’s production, just come virtually out of thin air from a source not many would expect. Some senior, on senior night, is given a chance to show out and he does; so thoroughly, so convincingly!

Friday night, Turner got 21-carries, gained 177-yards with 2-TDs. For the year, in seven games total, according to the KHSAA statistical website, that puts Turner’s seasonal output to 25-carries, 199-yards, and a pair of TDs. In other words, Turner had a season in a single night.

Senior night at that; what a great time for it!

Turner hasn’t ridden the pines; he’s 3rd in tackles, first in TFLs, and second in QB-sacks

Turner hasn’t been “riding the pines” this season. The senior linebacker is third on the team in tackles, first in TFLs, and second in QB-sacks.

Friday night must have made Colonel fans ponder, “Maybe he should have been in the backfield all this time.” Hmm…

Still, whatever the Colonels have been doing seems to have been working just fine, thank you. Oldham County is 6-1, with a 2-point loss to South Oldham, standing between it and a perfect record.

Coach Sean Little’s bunch must withstand a murderous gauntlet to the “finish line.” The Colonel’s closing stretch is at Ballard, home for Trinity, and then back on the road for North Oldham.

How good are Coach Little’s Colonels? I suppose we will find out on October 25 when Trinity comes calling.

Being honest, Oldham County will be favored this Friday night at Ballard, marginally, and then figure to be “underdogs” the final two. According to our algorithm, Oldham County will be prohibitive underdogs (25 points) when Trinity comes calling before the short tip over to Goshen to take on North Oldham. We have North Oldham favored by four.

If the Colonels can take care of business against a Ballard team which is formidable (if nothing else) and can manage to pull off a mild upset in Goshen, that puts the Colonels at 8-2 entering the playoffs with a decent seeding. Should they shock the world and upset Trinity; well, that would put the Colonels 9-1 and at home for the first three rounds, maybe four.

Maybe the Colonels found the answer for the home stretch this past Friday night. Give it to the Turner kid! He appears to know what to do with it.
