’29 WR/RB has the skills to grab some early PT
Trying to predict which ’29s are destined to see some PT this coming Fall is a dicey situation. One reason it is so fraught with error is the state of flux visiting most anatomies entering ninth grade. Some players are fully developed (or close to it) by the time they enter the varsity roster and some guys look completely different in ninth grade than they did in eighth. Branson Jones has accomplished about as much as a 5’4,” 125-pound RB/WR can hope. What will he do next year for Estill County? We think he has a chance to grab some early PT, particularly if his anatomical development cuts him some early slack.

Mingua Beef Jerky uses Enviro-Pac CHU-2000 equipment to cook its meat to USDA required levels for both moist or dry operation. Mingua Beef Jerky wants you to become one of its many satisfied customers by sampling its quality hand sliced, all natural beef jerky. We know you’ll love it and come back for more, again and again.
Ronnie Mingua began experimenting with making beef jerky back in the 1990s. He shared his efforts with neighbors and friends, soon realizing he had come up with something different and superior to all other beef jerkies on the market. From these humble beginnings, Mingua Beef Jerky got its start.
Today, the Mingua Beef Jerky Company still prides itself on using its old-fashioned, all-natural recipes which offer outstanding products to customers across the nation. The recipes are a family tradition, passed down from generation to generation.
Our recipes and our quality ingredients, hand-cut from solid pieces of beef, are never chopped or formed like other brands, making our products superior and one of a kind. That would make our products similar to this week’s Protein-packed Performer, Branson Jones, ’29 WR/RB from Farristown Middle (Estill County) in Irvine, Kentucky.

Irvine, KY: Branson Jones is a pretty smallish kid, even by rising freshman standards. Of course, there is nothing small about his football performance.
Jones, 5’4,” 125-pounds has been playing RB/WR for Farristown Middle School in Berea, KY. Jones has published on his X-Account his intention to play HS football for Estill County.
The “Engineers” have had some mighty fine players in the past. They also boast a Hall of Fame football coach in Hoover Niece.
Jones is a ’29 prospect. That means he will be enrolling into the ninth grade this coming Fall.
Estill was 6-5 in ’24 and were a one-point margin on September 28th (against Lawrence County) from being 7-4. Lawrence was 8-4 on the year so playing them to a one-point margin in Irvine, KY is an indication the Engineers are coming about to become quite formidable in the 3A classification.
Estill was a couple points from 7-4 in ’24

Lawrence is a district 8 opponent. Lawrence and Estill don’t have to get through Belfry anymore. The Pirates will play in 2A in ’25. District 8 is wide open now, men.
Jones carries a 4.0 GPA, so there is nothing wrong with the kid’s in-class performance. If he continues to perform at that pace, there will be plenty of college programs checking out his film. Colleges will tell you, you have to be eligible first, then they can worry about how you plug into their lineup.
Jones has done everything the middle school game affords its stars. Jones has been on the BOTR (Battle of the Regions, or “Battle”) squad twice and made FBU’s (Football University) Top Gun in 2024.
FBU conducts a combine to thresh through the wheat versus the chaff, if you will. The tells this author that any 5’4,” 125 pound WR/RB getting a “golden ticket” to the FBU “Top Gun” combine has to be able to “cook” in that 40-yard dash, pro-agility shuttle, and three-cone drill.
High School football teams, particularly 3A rosters, are alway looking for speed. Jones appears to fit that bill already. If the Good Lord would find His way into adding some height, length, and bulk to Jones’ present frame; well, then the “Engineers” would be mighty appreciative. Amen.
Join us next week as we return to honor another weekly prize winner. Until then, pop some Mingua Beef Jerky in your mouth and savor the quality and flavor which sets it apart from the competition. Remember, our product is superior and one of a kind; just like Estill County High School’s Branson Jones.
