Middle school spotlight: @Gjohnson1418 (Gavin Johnson) from @hazardkygov (Hazard, Ky); it is his time to shine. @wanda1erobinson @football_hazard @HazardInd @1776Bank @minguabeefjerky @KyHighFootball @PrepSpin @MaxPreps @UKFootball

Wan'Dale Robinson/Gavin Johnson

With the running times and lifting marks on record for this ’27 skill player, one would have to pencil in Gavin Johnson at the top of his graduating class’s list of top football prospects. If he keeps working like he has been working, the sky is the only limit for him.

Gavin Johnson isn’t your normal ’27 prospect. No sir, not by a long shot.

If you don’t believe it ask Wan’Dale Robinson. He would know extraordinary when seeing it.

Johnson is 5’11” and weighs 150-pounds. The rising 8th-grader lists his primary position as WR and his secondary position as RB. He has the speed and “quicks” to play either place.

Johnson bench presses 205-pounds and squats 315. With numbers like that entering the 8th grade in a few months and only weighing 150-pounds where this bulldog may get by the time he enters the 9th-grade is a scary proposition.

As for quicks and speed, get a load of this. Johnson runs the 40-yard dash in a cool 4.92-seconds, short-shuttles in 4.49-seconds, and turns in a 7.44-second, 3-cone drill.

Explosive? How does a broad jump of 103-inches sound?

Really middle school players are hard to feature. Very few of them have film as filming middle school games isn’t done regularly and only the very best programs at that level do it at all.

However, when you have a player like Johnson who has his times and lifting marks listed online for guys like us, well it makes it a bit easier. Who are we kidding, it makes it incredibly easy.

This is a ’27 we are putting on our players to watch list. This is a kid from whom we expect to hear quite a bit more going forward.

It’s Johnson’s time to shine. We hope the glare doesn’t blind us.
