’26 OG is still the best at that position in KY
We have touted Bo Wolford from Belfry as the best OG in the commonwealth since the beginning of the season. The 6’3,” 285-pounder with the 345-pound bench, 525-pound squat, and the 4.0 GPA hasn’t done anything through the first three games to dampen our enthusiasm. Wolford’s Belfry has a big road game with an 0-2 Southwestern team (5A) who (like Belfry) is much better than its record might suggest. We like Belfry in the game but it sure will be nice when the Pirates get around to playing some 3A competition.

We discussed in an earlier feature that not all records are equally constructed. We were talking about Russell County in the earlier article.
We picked Russell County to beat a 2-0 team it was playing that week. Russell County beat the britches off that team.
Belfry is 1-2 on the year but still very much in the 3A race. Southwestern High is 0-2 but no where near as down as the present record sounds.
Belfry beat Breathitt in the opener and then dropped consecutive games against 6A George Rogers Clark (by eight (8) points) and 4A powerhouse, Johnson Central, in Paintsville (by seven (7) points). Belfry was driving down the field, trailing 37-35, deep into Cardinal territory with a chance to win the GRC game when a kid picked a pass in the end zone and took it 100-yards the other way for a “celebration-six.”
Belfry could be 3-0 just about as easily as it is 1-2.
Southwestern is 0-2 on the year. The Warriors lost to 6A, North Hardin, and 5A juggernaut, South Warren.
Both teams have scheduled ambitiously. Both teams are much better than the records would indicate.
Belfry benefits from having the definitive player at his position. We have told anyone who would listen Bo Wolford, 6’3,” 285-pounds, ’26 OL is the premier guard in KHSAA football. Bo’s proving us prophetic.
The Pirates, in spite of the competition it has faced, are averaging over 300-yards a night on the ground. Many games, the ground yardage hovers in the 350 or more range. A team has to own the line of scrimmage to accumulate that type yardage in the ground game.
This Friday night, these two teams will square off in Somerset, Kentucky. Neither of them is in a position to absorb too many more losses so the stakes are kind of high.
We like Belfry in this game to push its record to 2-2. That ability to run the ball on anyone, at anytime, is a hard characteristic to overcome if you’re having to play it. We’re taking Belfry in this game and giving the Warriors from Southwestern three (3) points.
