Lasaters...time to wake up and smell the coffee!

’29 two-way interior lineman gives Colonels confidence brighter days lie ahead

Kamryn Wells is among the strongest and more explosive young linemen across Kentucky in the 2029 graduating class. Kam has been playing along the interior offensive line this season and has pulled “double duty” on the defensive front too. Kam’s vitalness to the offense has limited his defensive snaps. We believe he will pull more defensive time going forward, if not this season, then certainly succeeding seasons. Enjoy this feature about a real bright spot on the County roster in what has been a disappointing season thus far but one which may turn around any second!

Hopkinsville (Christian County), KY: Christian County is young, inexperienced, and wanting for roster depth. All three of these characteristics are a recipe for struggle. The biscuits are half-baked and…it has been a struggle.

Through the first four games, heading into a week off before play resumes, the Colonels have yet to win a game or even meaningfully challenge, for that matter. However, fortunes are capable of turning, completely, on a dime; and, we have traveled this same path, with other teams, in other seasons.

Back in ’21, Belfry started the season 0-5, righted the ship, and won the 3A football title; finishing 9-6. Just last year, Lexington Catholic, another 3A ball club, started the year 0-6 before righting itself and making the semis.

In 2018, Trinity started the year 0-4, and then rebounded to make the semifinals in 6A; losing ultimately to Male, 27-20, in the “final four.” Point is, sitting at 0-4 is pretty meaningless.

It is getting off the mat and continuing to fight which ultimately matters. There is your “life lesson.”

This past Friday night, Christian County played a team it beat on the road a year ago. This edition of Daviess County avenged last year’s loss against the Colonels, in Hopkinsville, 60-7. The 53-point margin was deceptive.

We have been told Daviess scored 30-points in the span of 4:07 on the game clock. Hard to conceive.

Daviess scored half of its points (30 of 60) in 4-minutes of game clock

Kam Wells’s play upfront has been solid. Behind Kam, the other night, Christian County was able to move the ball on the ground effetively and was able to set up and throw it around a little bit; but the offense was plagued by turnovers, penalties, and enough mistakes sufficient to fill an 18th-century, horse drawn cart.

Wells is a workhorse. Wells’s weight room numbers bear this out for a fact.

Wells clips off 40-yards in 5.2-seconds, bench presses 295 (and is just a freshman), squats 455, and pulls (deadlifts) a quarter-ton (500-lbs.). Wells wears jersey number 66 and is 5’10,” weighing 230-pounds.

The Colonels are off this weekend, which is why we are giving this award to the Colonels this week instead of one of the other area teams; but, when the Colonels return, they will travel to battle 1A Caverna. Caverna is coming off an 18-7 win over Eminence and standing 1-2 on the year as of the writing of this article. We believe Caverna might well face a Colonel squad unlike any version they have seen on film.

Identifying a potential weapon like Kamryn Wells should certainly help get Christian County ready for the challenge ahead. That is why Kamryn Wells is our Lasaters Coffee & Tea, Wake Up and Smell the Coffee Player of the Week.
