Blumel, No. 58

Jo Byrns is really going to miss not having this week’s recipient screaming off the end to make plays for them in 2019. Hunter Blumel, at 6-2 and weighing 230 pounds, had some of the best frame and size on the roster for the school in Cedar Hill, Tennessee.

We were able to watch Hunter’s highlights (linked above where you see his name) and we saw an edge player who was adept at scraping down the line of scrimmage, setting the edge, or using a variety of hand and arm techniques to free himself and shrink the opposing QB’s pocket, if not outright harass him into striking out on his own. Blumel looked to us to have great quick-twitch burst for get off, strength, and motor to cause havoc all over the field.

Coach Tom Adkins’ Red Devils are a traditional, Class 1A, team with whom to reckon in and around its area of Tennessee and there is no reason to assume that won’t continue. They were 6-5 in 2018, losing a home, first-round nail-biter (17-14) to Lookout Valley from Chattanooga.

The Red Devils will be back and ready to compete in 2019 and someone will be manning Blumel’s end-spot. There’s every reason to expect, however, whomever it is will have a difficult time contributing the same level of play as Hunter provided the squad in 2018. Good luck with that!

Congratulations, to Hunter Blumel for being selected this week’s Stewart Williams Furniture Company’s Robertson County Player of the Week. Join us next week as we anoint a new recipient.
