Lasaters...time to wake up and smell the coffee!

’28 WR/DB looks to have a huge season for the inaugural Tigers ball club

Jayon Bass has a few things the new 6A, first district ball club, the Christian County Tigers, will both have in abundance and will definitely need. Bass is long, tall, explosive, multi-phase football player who thrives in a variety of varsity sports with a complex set of skills and abilities. Bass had a big year for the Hoptown Tigers in its final season before consolidating with the cross town Christian County Colonels. Bass was among the top ’28s in the commonwealth, particularly as a defensive back. Seeing just what he gets done in ’26 should be worth the price of admission. We can’t wait. We are pretty sure many of you are equally anxious.

Hopkinsville, KY: Jayon Bass is what we call in the recruiting business a long, tall drink of water. Bass is tall (6’3″). Bass is muscled up (170-pounds). Bass has good length and explosion (11.0 points a game in basketball, 6.4-rebounds per game).

Bass not only can play a variety of sports, Bass can play on both sides of the scrimmage line. In ’25, as only a sophomore, Bass caught a pair of passes in limited offensive run.

On defense, Bass registered 50-tackles with three (3) INTs. That is a fair parcel of work.

Perhaps chief among his next-level numbers is Bass’s 3.7-GPA. Next level programs are going to love this guy.

Bass will be a junior in ’26. This offseason will be critical for Bass as the period between the sophomore and junior years is considered one where athletes often experience the most improvement and physical development.

We don’t know what the future holds for the Tigers as two former rosters will join to form one football team. It will be both a hard and bitter pill for sworn enemies to disavow age-old prejudices in favor of comity and uniting against new foes, new enemies.

We do know this, the new Christian County Tigers may find some truffles hidden amongst the roots of the Hopkinsville High School former football roster. They may find some next-level type kids to utilize, and on whom they may rely, as the two rosters mix together into one.

Identifying Bass amongst the “truffles” is hardly a stretch. Matter of fact, many in the area press corp would readily join in our praise for this player.

Identifying a weapon like Jayon Bass should certainly help get the Christian County Tigers ready for the challenges ahead. That is why Jayon Bass, is our Lasaters Coffee & Tea, Wake Up and Smell the Coffee Player of the Week.
