’27 WR/FS sure has the frame and the brain to flourish
We like to forecast success for a kid before the entire rest of the world discovers him. Gary Daugherty, Jr. is a kid who certainly looks the part. He reports WR and FS as his primary positions offensively and defensively. At 6’3,” 200-pounds there is no reason to not expect he will find the field in ’25 if not get himself slotted for two-way deployment. The kid has the brains to flourish as that 3.6 GPA says quite a bit about him. If this kid hits the combine circuit this summer and works on skill development and his power/strength/twitch numbers, he may be a handful for Central opponents and soon.

Louisville, KY: Central High in Louisville is a powerhouse program which has won titles before and contends for titles most years. From Bill Kean to Ty Scroggins to Marvin Dantzler, there has been no shortage of “legendary” head coaches from whom to draw inspiration.
Central is coming off a nine (9) win season, a trip to the regional championship game, and a season which would see them beat the 3A title holder, 48-28, on October 18, 2024 at home. Sure, Christian Academy-Louisville returned the favor in the third round; but hey, the Centurions were 12-3 and winners of the football title at its level of competition.
Point is, it is never easy to get on the field playing for Marvin Dantzler. It takes work. It takes commitment. It takes toughness. It takes dedication.
Now, Gary Daugherty, Jr. was a sophomore in ’24. We don’t have him playing or contributing. How many programs of which you are aware DO NOT play 6’3,” 188-pound safety/receivers?
There aren’t too many.
We like to predict young talent certain to hit the playing surface even before they do. Our staff has taken a look at Daugherty and we like what we see. This kid is definitely passing the eye test.

Daughtery has put on 12-pounds or so of “good weight.” He has the frame, height, weight, and length to be a very solid performer either on defense, or offense, or both.
Other than his looks, we love Daugherty’s grades. Not too many rising juniors can boast of a 3.6-GPA entering his third year in high school.
It is apparent Daugherty has the self discipline to perform very well in the classroom. We just need some of those same attributes to translate over to the playing field.
With everything else he is packing…it looks to us like the sky’s the limit on Daugherty’s future on-field production. Once he gets his “Friday Night” sea legs under him, this may even be a high level/next level football player.
Only time will tell!
