Class of 2021’s Jager Burton (@jager_burton), Frederick Douglass

A guy on Bluegrass Rivals, who goes by BoyleCo and lists himself as a Statistician, just released his top-30 OL in Kentucky rankings for 2019. The list, linked here, was published to Rivals yesterday.

It has launched a tremendous amount of debate from good-natured to vitriolic. Lists of that nature always do.

We at KPGFootball applaud his industry and effort. We might have ranked these 30 linemen in a different order, but have no problem with the linemen he listed.

For the vitriolic detractors, or to clarify the class of people to whom this is being directed, for the parents of the kids either not included or not “high enough” up on this man’s list, this pole wasn’t his opinion.

This guy sought and obtained feed back from 100 or so high school coaches representing 100 of Kentucky’s 222 high schools which field football teams. He also sought and obtained information from 4 NAIA coaches, a D-2 coach, 2 D-1 coaches, 2 trainers, and 2 news outlets. KPGFootball wasn’t consulted and we feel slighted somewhat.

According to the list’s publisher, he worked on it for over a year logging 100s of man-hours on its compilation. He feels his list constitutes somewhat of a consensus among the outlets which (either wittingly or unwittingly) contributed.

Today’s subject came in at No. 5 on BoyleCo‘s list. We may have ranked him even higher but we would have ranked him nonetheless, had we been doing the ranking.

Jager Burton is the No. 2 player in Kentucky’s Class of 2021 according to numerous sites which have ranked 2021 prospects. Rivals has him the 11th highest regarded OG in the 2021 class anywhere in the land.

The 6-3, 271-pounder plays at Frederick Douglass and is seen above pictured with Dekel Crowdus. Crowdus, Kentucky’s top-ranked 2021er, is a WR at Frederick Douglass giving Douglass two mighty well thought of members of Kentucky’s 2021 class.

Burton is sporting offers from Cincinnati, Duke, Kentucky, Louisville, and Marshall. We have seen the kid camp. He has long arms, moves his feet very well, plays over his backside and meets the action on his terms as opposed to lunging at defenders and is devastating at the point of attack getting down-hill in the run game.

Is Burton the 5th best offensive lineman in Kentucky high school football? We think he may be more like the 2nd or 3rd. However, we aren’t in a position to take too much more than good-natured issue with the list published by BoyleCo. Why? We haven’t talked to the coaches he has consulted, the trainers he’s consulted, the news outlets he’s consulted, or logged the man-hours he has. Guess who else hasn’t done any of the above…any of you.
