Jo Byrns’ Matthew Henegar is the Stewart Williams Company’s Robertson County Player of the Week

October 17, 2019 Henry Lyon 0

Here is a guy on a team which is struggling but that doesn’t mean he is. Matthew Henegar is a 6-2, 290-pound C/DT whose future is probably along the offensive line if he elects to play at the next level. Good offensive centers are hard to find and in demand in a big way. Enjoy this article about this week’s Robertson County Player of the Week and join us next week as we award another recipient.

Anderson County’s Darion Dearinger, an All-State DE by any definition (featured Photo: Melissa Klink Photography)

It is getting time to start thinking about All-State selections. When it comes to voting on the All-State team (AP), we nominate guys positionally for inclusion. What we mean by that is when the AP asks for five linemen we nominate a center, two guards, and two tackles. The way we treat it is who would we want if this mythical team were going to play a game against another team and we really, really wanted to win. When we are asked for 4 defensive linemen, for instance, we give two DEs and two interior guys for the mythical defensive line. We nominate two safeties and two corners for the back end, so on and so forth. Our criteria is a simple one, our first team player would have to be good enough to transfer anywhere in Kentucky and be first team wherever he landed at the position at which he is being nominated. With that as a working criteria, which isn’t going to change, we will feature, from now through the opening of the ballot, players we believe fit that bill. We will start with a DE from Anderson County for which there will be little to any debate.

October 12, 2019 Henry Lyon 0

Every weekend, we are notified by the Associated Press as to the results, from over the weekend, of the respective six classification’s top-10. In other words, who won and who lost among Kentucky’s highest rated football teams in each classification. As a service to our subscribers, we have begun publishing the information so as to pass it along to our subscribers. Here is how the top-10 fared on October 10th or 11th, over the previous weekend.

Here are the KPGFootball AP Votes for this week’s Top-10

October 12, 2019 Henry Lyon 0

We are enormously privileged to get to vote in the weekly AP top-10 football polls for all 6 classifications of KHSAA football. This article is how we cast our ballot this week. THIS IS NOT THE OFFICIAL POLL as it will be released to the public this coming Monday afternoon, if tradition holds. We pour over data and statistical information in order to arrive at each team’s poll position. Don’t get too upset with how we vote, it plays itself out on the field anyway. This feature is for the benefit of subscribers only. Membership has its privileges.

Ten Friday night match-ups where the clock will run…

October 10, 2019 Henry Lyon 0

We could pick games every week without missing a single prediction if we wanted to do that. There are very good HS football teams in Kentucky and there are very bad ones too. Just to prove a point, we have outlined ten games we guarantee will be won convincingly by the team we have predicted. If we lose even one of these ten, check the temperature in Hell. Funny thing is, a few of these matchups are between teams with similar records. Well, not all 2-4 records are similarly constituted. Enjoy the article. HB.

Knott County’s Blake Whitaker proving a reliable target down the field…

October 10, 2019 Henry Lyon 0

When writing features and covering Kentucky high school football, many publications exclusively cover players on the really good teams. Well, there are players on rosters for teams who struggle. The difference between the rosters of teams doing well versus those who aren’t is often the number of good players the roster contains. Blake Whitaker for Knott County Central is a very good football player. Enjoy this feature about a player who (without us) may get both overlooked and underexposed.

This week’s Stewart Williams Company Robertson County Player of the Week is Noah Batey from Greenbrier High School. Batey is a 6-4, 290-pound OT who is playing well for the Bobcats so far this season in spite of the team’s struggling somewhat at 1-5. His play regularly exceeds any and all reasonable expectations, week after week. Enjoy this look at a big guy getting the job done for his teammates. Join us again next week as we look to recognize another of Robertson County’s worthy players.
