Cameron Hergott won the Coach’s “Mr. Football.” He is also a former recipient of the Mingua Beef Jerky’s “Protein-packed Performer of the Week.” That should show you the Mingua people know their football! Here is an interesting look in this article about how a “Mr. Football” winner can only be “Honorably Mentioned” on the All-State team published by the same group which voted on “Mr. Football,” KFCA’s members. Enjoy the article. HB.

We are compiling our Freshman, Sophomore, and even our middle school teams right now. The selection committee is meeting and, when we get done, we are sure we will have teams which please a few, enrage the vast majority, and stimulates a ton of discussion good for the overall health of the game of football. There won’t be much debate should this particular
QB make the team. Read about the year this guy had!

All-State team reflects bigger problem than who did or didn’t make it…

For those of you who pay this site for its unvarnished candor, here you go. The coach’s all-state football team was published yesterday. It generated furious debate and discussion, which is what it is designed to do. There were some grossly undervalued players, there were glaring (and I mean unbelievably glaring) omissions, and there were some selections right on the money. Pretty much the same can be said every time a team gets published. The Associated Press’s team will open nominations in about a month, and will be the last team published, and those wishing to criticize “get ready” because I am quite sure we will screw it up just as badly as the coaches. The debate about whom should have made it over this guy or that, is a healthy one and shows how much the sport means to all of us. That we care is good.

Not voting when you have been sent a ballot. Well, that is not so good. In this article we speak out about a topic on which our commentary was specifically requested. Be careful for what you ask, you might get it.

Enjoy the article, for those purchasing it or subscribing to the site. This is content we don ‘t publish or share for free because we are a business and this is the type content which encourages people to join. Enjoy the article. HB.

@DeanthonyPerry from @trinitysports is the @Minguabeefjerky “Protein-packed Player of the Week.” @KyHighFootball @PrepSpin @1776Bank

There are lots of ways a dominant football player can exert himself into a game, and a game’s outcome, which don’t show in the game’s statistics. This player, DeAnthony Perry, has been the dominant, “man in he middle” along the Trinity defensive front for Kentucky’s premier high school football team all season. He was dominant in the title game against Louisville Male. Perry is a big-play, playmaker. In the title game he harassed the backfield, seemingly every snap, and came up with huge plays. He is among the best at what he does in the high school game for a reason. Congratulations to DeAnthony Perry from Louisville’s Trinity High School for being the Mingua Beef Jerk Company’s “Protein-packed Performer of the Week!” HB.

If you have been reading our weekly “Outstanding Performances…” articles, the series of articles should have impressed upon you how very difficult winning this award really is. We had another spectacular week where there were numerous performances any one of which would have been a fine performance to single-out. This week, heading into the Championships, we honor a senior who exhibited an outstanding effort leading his team to a Semi-State Title and helping take the whole lot grocery shopping on Kroger Field hunting the 4A Title to bring back to “Title Town.” This guy was tough between the tackles and tore up a normally stingy defense in the fourth round, finding the end-zone three times in the offing. Enjoy the article and join us next week as we honor another worthy recipient. HB.

Who wins…who loses, tomorrow night in the Semi-finals. @minguabeefjerky @PrepSpin @KHSAAFootball (Featured Photo: Les Dixon, Times-Tribune)

Here are our picks for the Semi-finals occurring tomorrow night. West Carter should be thrilled we didn’t pick them as it seems every time we disrespect them, they come away routing the other team. We may just disrespect them right into a championship. Anyway, there are several “upsets” we have taken here as this year has been anything but normal. Fletcher Long was furious with our Hoptown prediction (his alma mater) and vows we are all “crazy.” We shall see. HB.

This Time Around…how’d we do?

December 1, 2020 Henry Lyon 0

We published an article entitled “This Time Around” last week. In the article we predicted five games which were won by the team we thought would lose the District Championship game in spite of being one-seeds and playing at home. We were right in all five, though one of them was a COVID-19 forfeit which we won’t count. In this article we make an accounting of just how we did and how on the money we were. We hit one of the picks dead on the number. That is why you pay us. HB.
