How in the world did it take so long to appreciate the on-field performance of Michael Hughes, Jr.? Frankly, we are a tad embarrassed to admit not knowing the answer to this. It would help if the kid would sign up for Twitter like every other football prospect in the known universe. This guy won this award back in March of ’22. It was largely owing to the performance he rendered over his sophomore season. Well, he took it up a notch over his junior year and quite impressively. We voted for Layton Davis, first-team (on our AP ballot), when he was still at Caldwell County last season. Layton was “Honorably Mentioned” on the AP team and first-team on KPGFootball’s squad as only a junior. There isn’t a coach in the West who wouldn’t pick him first if assembling a team and needing an inside presence along the front. This kid is All-State, all day long, and our sources tell us might possibly be headed to play for Lindsey-Wilson. Enjoy the feature. HB.
DeAndre Malone really played at an incredibly high level all season long for Coach Chris Wolfe’s Bulldogs. The Louisville Male product is a first-team all-stater in our estimation. We also think he is a sure take for many a college football program looking to add a kid who understands “turning it on” under the lights. Enjoy the feature. HB.
