Murray High had a tremendous signal caller in 2025 who has moved on to the Murray State Racers and will now play on Saturdays. Still, Melvin Cunningham has built an enviable program while at Murray High and his Tigers figure to be in the title chase again in 2026. Lots of big-bodies on that Tiger roster. Lots of athletes on that Tiger roster. There is even a transfer from Dresden, TN who comes to town well thought of, successful, and much ballyhooed for his prior on-field successes. HIs name should be familiar to you. It is Bruce Willis, the same as the Hollywood “leading man,” Bruce Willis. This guy is a load, plays QB, lists MLB as his defensive position (which should tell the reader something of his demeanor and disposition), and is equally dangerous breaking down defenses with his arm or his legs. Today we break down the 5A classification. Lots of people are going to pick Owensboro (Senior) and with good reason. They won it a year ago and, but for the loss of Evan Hampton, have a ton of talent returning. Of course, losing “Mr. Football” is kind of a big loss. We like Scott County. The Cardinals look to us to have it all. They have a lot of skills coming back, are very strong in the run game, and have one of the better athletes across the board playing in the KHSAA game today. They also have an amazing coaching staff loaded up with Hall of Fame types. Woodford County, Atherton, and Bowling Green will be heard from too and Pulaski and South Laurel better be watched. It is time to break down the 2A classification and eCampus.com is as interested in this class as any other business entity in the commonwealth of KY. We picked LCA a year ago and people thought we were crazy. The Eagles return a ton of production and, all of a sudden, our prognosis doesn’t appear so far fetched. Beechwood welcomes back an all-time coaching legend to its sideline and also returns a strong Mr. Football candidate in Tyler Fryman. Owensboro Catholic, Belfry, and Breathitt all have stars, are very well coached, and figure to make a run. Enjoy this look at the 2A classification as we gear up toward the opener.

We continue on with our offseason coverage not really discussing players of the week so much as discussing featured players and prospects. The ‘Scholfield Leg Rocket’ was simply among the best PK’ing football talents in the Kentucky-wide, KHSAA football game at his level of play and particularly on the western end of KY. Scholfield came on our radar with his play over the course of his career at McCracken County during Coach Marc Clark’s time at the helm of the Mustang’s ship. Since then, Scholfield has done nothing but confirm we were all right about him from the beginning. Scholfield only improved over his high school career, and had a nice college career to boot. Scholfield was the kind of kid coaches wanted to coach and, in the end, that may have been the finest compliment which could have been paid him (or any other kid). Enjoy the feature.

No matter the age of a love one, and regardless of the certainty of death, we never seem ready for someone to leave us. We shouldn’t feel for the one who leaves, they are going to a better place. We should (and often do) feel for the ones left behind. My best friend’s dad has passed and my friend is (understandably) distraught. We all are, especially around the offices of the magazine. Bobby Rogers was a one of a kind guy who knew just how to father, husband, or even pull off being a great friend. Bobby will be missed. Enjoy this memorial to him and his memory.
