Centre and Sewanee renewed what has to be the oldest rivalry in the SAA if not the entire NCAA, Division III. This newest entry in the series was an exciting one and a game where Centre’s execution began to look like it has to look for Centre to be ready for the challenges which lie ahead. Brody Hunt has his Bears right in the thick of things these days in the always tough 2nd District. Hancock, McLean, and Todd County Central are all playing lights out and Owensboro Catholic has settled into its accustomed role of 2nd District “Bully.” The team which has commonly been the “odd man out” is now playing lights out. Do the Bears have to beat the Rebels from. Todd County to get in the playoffs this year? Union County has really been a force with which to reckon over the past few seasons. It seems the Braves are in the title hunt in 3A, and in one of 3A’s toughest districts (District 1), annually. Having players like Kris Hughes certainly doesn’t hurt matters. You wait until you see what the young man did this past Friday night. He is a transfer from 4A Hopkinsville High School. With the struggles Hoptown has experienced with QB play, and with the efficiency this young ’25 QB has displayed, don’t you imagine the transfer of this particular player to Woodford County is all the more painful? We have followed Cade Sullivan since his being one of Kentucky’s finest coming out of its middle school ranks. He has been a superstar in HS too, just on a team which has struggled which impacts many players who find themselves so situated. This kid is drawing D-1 looks and has D-1 speed. The Centre Colonels raised its record to 3-1 with a road loss to a very good Trine team its only blemish. Still, proponents of offensive football have to be concerned with how Centre is performing as the team just keeps imploding offensively. Just who do these Greenwood Gators think they are? Well, Class 5A title contenders if the Gators’ performance to date means anything at all. The Gators have played a meaty and tough schedule with a brutal closing stretch upcoming but many around Warren County believe they have the recipe for upsetting some folks around the 2nd district.
