Class of 2021’s Trent Asher has been one of Kentucky’s best kept secrets. Getting the word out on a prospect playing football in the Kentucky Appalachia mountains isn’t always easy. Asher has been taking it upon himself to make sure he is noticed as he has been heavily involved in the combine circuit this offseason and he doesn’t appear to be slowing any.

Asher made the Jackson Times-Voice‘s All-Seventh District Football Team after a junior year which would see him lead the Eagles in rushing (885-yards, 99-carries, 14 rushing TDs), receiving (28 catches, 621-yards receiving, 8-TD receptions), and scoring (142-points). What he has done this offseason makes his in-season production pale in comparison. That is saying quite a lot because he really balled out this past year.

Trent went to a national combine before the one the scoresheet for which is above and graded out 7th overall. In this second combine, his scores showed the performance the first time was no fluke.

We have been told his times reflected on the above score sheet at that national combine were laser-times. Even if hand-held the performance is noteworthy. If laser-timed, the performance was even more so.

So, what does it all mean? Well, his 4.64-second, laser-timed 40 is really fast. His 4.361-second pro agility shuttle indicates his change of direction speed and athleticism are really elite. These are important attributes for either WR or RB, the change of direction ability even more so than the outstanding straight-line speed.

His 117-inch broad jump (9′, 7.5″) is indicia of his being elite in the area of lower body explosion. Notice too, his 40-yard time, taken together with his 10-yard and 20-yard splits, indicate he got faster as he went along. This indicates that a quicker start, which is really a technique thing, will net him immediately faster results in that particular exercise.

Either way, he has plenty of second and third level separation speed, especially for a high school football player. Either way, should this kid get even with your back-four, he’s probably scoring.

This is a really good player who is performing at a very high level both on the field and on the combine circuit. His combine numbers indicate his on-field production figures to go through the roof over the course of his senior season.

He’s been a secret up until now. It looks as if the secret is a secret no longer.
