’26 speedster seems headed for an All-State season and next level deployment
Coach Chris Ezell would be the first to tell you speed is an important characteristic for a skill-position football player and back-third defender. Well, there aren’t too many in the KHSAA who can outrun Peyton Williams. If last spring’s regional track championships are any indication, Williams is the fastest kid in the first region as its reigning 100-meter sprint champion. Peyton Williams is a multi-sport star at Trigg County and a three-phase performer for the Wildcats in football. Williams is also the first sub 11-second, 100-meter time from Trigg County High School since Al Baker graduated in the spring of 1986. Heck, that is 39-years ago.

Friday Night Fletch
Cadiz, KY: This past spring, Peyton Williams did something at Trigg County which has been done since Al Baker played for the Wildcats. Williams broke 11-seconds in the 100-meter dash, running it in 10.99-seconds and winning the first region title at the outdoor track & field championships.
Now when it is said “hadn’t been done since Al Baker” there needs to be a tad bit of context here. Al Baker, who went on to UK and was an All-SEC player and thousand yard rusher for the Wildcats graduated from Trigg County in 1986.
Friday Night Fletch was a junior in high school in the spring of 1986. I am 57-years old.
Obviously, breaking 11-seconds in 100-meters is significant. It hadn’t been done at Trigg County high school in 39-years.
Peyton Williams is more than just fast. Williams is a darned fine football player to boot.
Trigg County lost its first team QB last season very early. The Wildcats had to turn to a true freshman to fill the post.
In spite of that, Williams still caught 34-passes for 474-yards receiving with seven (7) TDs. Williams was second on the team in scoring with 44-points, adding a two point conversion to his seven (7) TDs receiving.
Speed thrills; Speed kills
Friday Night Fletch
Williams is a defensive player in addition to his prodigious offensive output a season ago. Williams registered 18-tackles with an INT covering 20-IRNYs in ’24. Williams also led the team in PBUs (Passes Broken Up), a statistic a lot of teams don’t even keep but a critical one nonetheless.
Physically, Williams is 5’10,” and weighs around 145-pounds. That is a bit deceptive as he has a high waist and is long in the extremities which explains the running speed.
Williams is a “next level” prospect owing to his speed, length, twitch, and vertical explosion if for no other reason. You don’t see many kids clipping off fully automated, sub 11-second, 100 meter times which is how the time garnered a regional championship in the event in the Spring of ’25.
There is an old saying in football applicable here. Speed thrills; speed kills.
We can’t make it any simpler than that. We’ll see you at the game!
