Last season we thought we were going to have to start calling them the “Heartbreak Wildcats” if things didn’t start trending differently. Trigg County dropped consecutive, one-point defeats to the toughest of competition under very strange and almost lightening-striking-ish type situations. Still, the play the team was getting from its then-sophomore/rising junior QB was extraordinary. Cade Scott was and still is a superlatively good, three sport, varsity athlete who excels at FB (QB), basketball (SG), and baseball (OF/LHP). He completed nearly 75% of his passing attempts and consistently put the offense in situations where it should and, often did, thrive. We continue on with our offseason coverage not really discussing players of the week so much as discussing featured players and prospects. Cooper Adams is a kid with a ton of tough who played eight games of varsity run as a freshman and is only going to improve as he fills out and develops. Adams is an accomplished wrestler who was a Kentucky champion in middle school and already enjoying success as a varsity grappler on the high school level. Adams is the kind of kid coaches want to coach and, in the end, that may be the finest compliment which can be paid to him. Enjoy the feature.

We were talking with our friend, Rusty Goble the other day. Goble is the OC at Trigg County. He was excited to be getting a ton of talent back on the “active” roster from the “injured reserve.” According to Rusty, “We have everyone back with the exception of Peyton Williams. We may be the best one win team in KY.” Well, now they are a “two-win” team as they smoked the Rebels from Todd County 48-6, and with the help of this week’s PoW, just might be a dangerous team entering the playoffs. Trigg County hasn’t played a football game since Crittenden County on September 26. One of the weeks was an “off week,” while the other (a game with Fort Campbell shelved because of the government shutdown) has been rescheduled for October 30. In any event, it has been a while. In the interim it is hoped Trigg may get some of the roster healed up and ready for action. Trigg County will get Mighty Mayfield at Perdue Field in Cadiz this coming weekend and that will be as tough as it sounds. Ahmari “Double A” Alexander has been playing like “Alexander the Great” so far this season. Enjoy this feature on this wonderfully gifted and talented young football star.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t stop the federal government shut down from shutting down his team, his coaches, his teammates, and his assault on the KHSAA statistical website among 2A and KHSAA players. We need to find some way to come together and end the gridlock. That is as close to a political statement as you will ever get from us. If we wanted to talk politics, we would cover it. We warned people beating 6A Hoptown would be challenge if Devaree Gude played. Without Gude, we picked Hoptown to win by 28…and they won by 27. Brody Calhoun is an example of a star HS player who is very likely to play in college but at what competitive level we aren’t in a position to accurately forecast. You see, there is a possibility Calhoun isn’t done growing so to know at what college level he may play we would have to speculate how his frame finishes. We just aren’t in a position to know. Calhoun’s on field production is “off the charts” as the rising junior has made close to 160-career tackles and hasn’t taken his first 11th-grade class yet. We are approaching “Dead Period” so get ready. Not much lies on the other side of “Dead Period” apart from two preseason scrimmages and opening night. We’re ready. We hope you are.
