’27 RB/DE/LB ready to lead his Colonels
Deasian Harris had a productive and efficient season in ’24, his junior year. Harris is a vocal leader who is one of the team’s better performers in the weight room. In addition to battling for the starting birth in the offensive backfield, Harris is a stalwart defender who was among the leaders last year in virtually ever major defensive category. The Colonels may go as far in ’25 as its senior leader is ready and prepared to take them. Make no mistake, this will be a vastly better on field product than it was a year ago and Harris’s development is a major reason why. This is a tough kid, who is a good citizen and student, and who has a versatile athletic skill-set. These are all prized attributes by both The Bank of Cadiz & Trust Company and “KPGFootball.”

Hopkinsville, KY: We are very familiar with Christian County Colonel football and its illustrious history. People forget the period of time when the Colonels numbered among the very best teams in what was then the KHSAA’s largest classification (4A).

Harris (’26 RB/LB); Hudl Account
Here is a little factoid for you: Christian County was the first (and for a long time were the only) team located outside Louisville, Kentucky to win a 4A title more than once. The Colonels won titles in 1982, 1984, and darn near won a title in 1992 all under legendary, Hall of Fame head football coach, Dan Goble.
There have been great players play for the Colonels. There have been NFL players play for the Colonels. There is a safety playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers, right now, who played for Christian County (Corey Trice, Jr.).
Deasian Harris appears to be headed for the next “Colonel great” designation. He has the build for it. He has the toughness for it.
On defense, Harris is a linebacker with enough meat on his bones to put his hand in the dirt and come charging off the edge. With the transfer from California on the roster (Anthony Gabriel, Jr., 6’0,” 245-pound transfer from Twentynine Palms High), it appears the ’25 run box for the Colonel defense, and its power run game on offense, should remind some Colonel faithful of the old “Split Veer,” odd-front days.
Let’s give the ball to Mack “Truck” Majors and get down hill with it! Sorry, I was suffering from an early to mid-80’s flashback. Now, back to the present…
Deasian Harris will make the ’25 Colones much more physical (and better) than the team we watched a year ago
Friday Night Fletch
Last year, Harris led the Colonels in most critical defensive categories. Harris figures to lead that unit again in ’25 with the help of some critical pieces the program is developing.
Paul Abren (’27 LB/RB) looks to be a budding star. Having Jack Long (’27 Rover) cleared for play will help the defense. Zyon Wharton (’26 ATH/WR) may be a next level guy and certainly boasts the intangibles.
Tom Johnson (’26 QB) has been looking really good at QB. Freshmen Bryson Ford (LB/TE) and Kam Wells (C, G, NT) are as good as you will find at their respective positions among ’29 prospects.
Harris has to “want the ball” because that is what being a star requires. If Harris keeps giving a star’s effort, and rendering to his team both superior performance and exceptional quality, just like The Bank of Cadiz & Trust Company, the Colonels may sneak up on some folks around the fist district of the 6A classification this coming season.
We can’t make it any simpler than that. We’ll see you at the game!
