Everyone who even remotely follows the sport knows the Union County Braves are among Kentucky’s elite 3A programs especially on the western end of Kentucky. They used to have the dubious distinction of having to battle “The Blue Tornado” for district supremacy but realignment has remedied this. They will still have to contend with Trigg County and the Hopkins County Central Storm’s “Air Raid” offense. No easy task. Linemen like Caiden Broadus easy the climb. Enjoy the feature. FL.

Kory Combs (’25, Breathitt, LB/FB) and Blake Evans (’25, Bell County, LB/FB) appear to be friends. This would make perfect sense as the two of them are the best two LB’s in the Appalachia mountains in their graduating class. We have featured Combs many times. We voted for Layton Davis, first-team (on our AP ballot), when he was still at Caldwell County last season. Layton was “Honorably Mentioned” on the AP team and first-team on KPGFootball’s squad as only a junior. There isn’t a coach in the West who wouldn’t pick him first if assembling a team and needing an inside presence along the front. This kid is All-State, all day long, and our sources tell us might possibly be headed to play for Lindsey-Wilson. Enjoy the feature. HB.

Union County has really been a force with which to reckon over the past few seasons. It seems the Braves are in the title hunt in 3A, and in one of 3A’s toughest districts (District 1), annually. Here is our best guess at the five best teams heading into the ’22 season in the 3A classification. We were right on the money a year ago picking Belfry to win and Paducah to make the final game. This is Drew Davis. He is among Kentucky’s very finest interior, defensive down lineman in Kentucky’s ’23 class.
