We have been focusing on the young Kentucky players who braved the challenges presented this past weekend at the prestigious Appalachia Prep Combine in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Young Jerrick Williams, from Owensboro High School was among their number. This guy last won this award in middle school. He was heading to play in a middle school All-American football game at the time. We thought he would be a high school All-American too, even then. Not even we thought it would be as quickly as it has occurred. Here is something right amazing, almost exactly a year ago, December 29, 2019 to be exact, we featured then 8th-grade All American Jak Lindsey from Owensboro MIddle School. Well, a lot has happed since last year, like his starting in the 5A championship game for Owensboro High School as only a 9th-grader (man, we called this one) but he is still a super-star player, nonetheless. Talk about your protein-packed performers, this 6-1, 215-pound MLB for Owensboro (Senior) High School (5A) had one of those nights where he was called upon to contribute on multiple sides of the scrimmage line. He came away with a big-time performance and productive regardless of what he was called upon to do. In a tight contest like last Friday with Owensboro Catholic, where every score was important, his contributions were instrumental to victory. We think AG (as we call him around the magazine) is the definitive player at his defensive position in Kentucky high school football. Can’t flatter a guy much more than that!
