Like we have done in prior seasons, now the games are finally here, we will take the last week’s action and break it down and then look at the road ahead. We had quite the battle with Caldwell at home this past Friday night and the game turned on two fumble recoveries and a KO return for a TD comprising the 11-point difference between the two equally matched teams. The high school game is a game where we don’t see a ton of 6’5,” 225-pound lineman, but we are generally excited when we do. Isaac Manning is among the more versatile talents around western Kentucky and provides superlative value for college football programs recruiting him. With district heavyweights Hancock and McLean on the horizon, and a loss to Union County last week, the games with Trigg and Webster are key to making the playoffs. Hopkins Central got off to a rocky start here in ’24. The same can be said of Fort Campbells opening loss to Clarksville NE. These two teams meet on Friday night and they both badly need to come out on top. Coming into the season we have a variety of news to report. First, Cajun Hayes is looking like we predicted back on May 24, 2024. He is pushing for starter’s reps and has looked fantastic, particularly after the hitting started. Central has lost some coaches. Jeremiah Groves is a guy who couldn’t be framed out much better. He is 6’3,” north of 200-pounds, and has a versatile skill set which has lent itself well to his contributing to the team in a variety of ways. Groves scored a TD receiving, logged a “scoop and score,” was among the team leaders in tackles and sacks. Jaylehn Johnson is a versatile athlete who has made the most of his limited appearances on the grid iron. Johnson runs Track & Field and competes in the 400-meter where he clips off that longish sprint in around a minute flat. That isn’t too bad.
