Storm Warning: Central welcomes Webster County to Morton’s Gap with both squads in bad need of a win @WebCoFootball, @_CoachManning, @HopkinsCentral. @sfitz_840whas, @840WHAS, @minguabeefjerky

Cloudy skies upcoming...look out for "Stormy" weather

The Storm prepares for visiting Webster County with an opportunity to get pivotal district win

’25s, Zayden Parker and Isaac Manning, post bulk of the points against Union Co.

There is an argument all district games are pivotal. We hear you, loudly and clearly. In district 1-3A, it would appear this particular game is particularly pivotal being that Central was overmatched against Union County and figures to struggle with upcoming opponents, Hancock and McLean. The games with Webster and Trigg are winnable; therefore, this game right here is a “must win.” We like the Storm in this one; but, it will be tight!

Morton’s Gap, KY: The Storm traveled to Morganfield, KY to play Derek Johns’ Union County Braves. We picked Union to challenge for the 3A crown, preseason, and we aren’t backing away from the prediction.

Robert Eubanks, HFC, Hancock Co.

Sure, Union dropped a game to 5A, North Hopkins, in its opener and lost to Murray High, who looks to be the class of Kentucky 2A (by the way) in a game in Murray, but Union could run the table from this point forward. Were they to do that, the Braves would enter the playoffs 8-2.

The Braves will have to solve Robert Eubanks’ Hancock riddle, which none of the first five Hornet opponents were able to solve; but, still…Union could run the table.

Union’s game at McLean will tell us much more. Zack Wagner’s bunch are tough.

Well, anyway, the game in Morganfield went like expected. Union scored nearly half a hundo with Central scoring twice.

There were some bright spots. Zayden Parker (’25) rushed for 87-yards and a TD. Isaac Manning (’25) took the top off the Braves’ defense with a 32-yard TD reception. Blaze Whitaker (’27) was 1-2 on PATs to complete the scoring.

Manning

Hard to brag too much on a defense surrendering 49-points. That said, Carlos Mason (’25) and Kamran Harrison (’26) recovered fumbles. The Storm were grateful for those two extra possessions.

Silas Gunn has continued his strong defensive play. He has 35-tackles, 4-TFLs, and a sack to pace the defense on the season, thus far, by a fairly far piece.

Hopkins County Central (1-4) is at home, Friday night. The Storm will welcome a Webster County (2-3) squad which is no stranger to the rain.

Webster has beaten Butler County by four (4) and Todd County Central by three (3). Those two teams, in 10-combined games, are 2-8 in ’24 thus far.

Here’s how KPGFootball sees the matchup:

Webster County has a 53% chance to win on a neutral field. Game is in Morton’s Gap and "The Gap," as we like to call it, is anything but neutral. This game is a must win! We like the Storm by a single, solitary point!

In other first district news, Robert Eubanks has the Hornets, from Hancock County, 5-0 welcoming Trigg County to Lewisport, KY on Friday Night. The visiting Wildcats figure to get thumped unless the Hornets are looking ahead to its trip to Morganfield on October 18.

We think the Hornets beat Trigg. Thereafter the Hornets figure to trounce Webster on the 3rd of October before sliding into a two-week preparation for Union, in Morganfield, KY, with a 7-0 mark.

Look out for these Hornets! If you encounter them, you’re very likely to get stung.

Hancock County (Lewisport, KY) 35 (97%), Trigg County (Cadiz, KY) 6 (3%)

That’s it for this week. Get ready for a big Friday night upcoming and let’s get ready to cheer our Storm into the winner’s circle in Morton’s Gap.
