We keep running across coaches deserving of recognition. This guy here lent a tremendous amount of credence to the proverb about acorns not falling too far from its tree. Alvis Johnson played football at Christian County High School in the 60s and went on to become a football player for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. Upon graduation, Johnson came home to Hopkinsville and began as an assistant football coach at his alma mater. Thereafter, Johnson got the head coaching job at Harrodsburg where he built them into a 1A powerhouse. Johnson won over 71% of the games in which he coached, totaling 194-wins against only 77-losses with three (3) trips to the finals, losing in 1996 to Beechwood in overtime. This guy here was among the greatest track coaches in the history of the KHSAA like yesterday’s feature Ben Pumphrey. Sons Derrick and Dennis Johnson were part of Harrodsburg’s huge run of success in the ’90s and both went on to play at the University of Kentucky. Enjoy this feature.

Today we are looking at a program which has snuck up on some people after a 5-6 ’22 season. Mercer will have many pieces back next year, particularly on defense, but the McKinney, season ending injury in the game with Southwestern was heart-breaking. Still, Mercer has an opportunity to finish very strong and go into the playoffs 9-1. Enjoy the feature. “Friday Night Fletch”

There are pick-ups which are solid base-hits and then there are home runs. In our opinion, when K-Dub secured this player as it’s “QB of the future” the Panthers had hit a round tripper. Starring for the Panthers will prove nothing new for Clay Games as that is exactly what he has done in high school at Elizabethtown High. Enjoy the feature. HB.

If they belong to #Brotherhood, they can play the sport of football. Myriad are the examples of this. Yesterday, KWC extended offers which included offers to these three members of #Brotherhood. None of these three have seen their last offer. We got to watch all three perform at KWC’s prospect camp and we came away as impressed as Coach Yeast. Enjoy the article.
