It is that time of year. We will be breaking the Big Ass Fans All-State Football team in segments. Today will be the small school all-state offense, tomorrow will be the defense; then we will follow suit for the large schools (4A, 5A, & 6A) Hold on tight folks, this will probably be a bumpy ride.

Brady Atwell is firmly in the hunt for Kentucky’s “Mr. Football.” His uncle won the distinction in 1999 and playing at a level (Class A) which hasn’t boaster too many winners. Brady has a tough road to haul with Beechwood coming to Lexington seeking the same distinction as the Catholic club. Every year we like Owensboro Catholic to challenge for a title in 2A. Every year they seem to do just that before dropping a game in a late round. Last year, the Aces had the ball, down five, with a chance to go down the field and win the title and fell just shy of the mark. We like these guys to “do it” in ’24. We are taking them to win it. When last we heard, Catholic was going to have the Devil of a time holding on to its Mr. Football candidate at QB, Brady Atwell. It appears Owensboro Catholic has weathered the storm there. Luke Pennington threw 50 TDs this past season without a single thrown INT. We suppose that is how one registers a QBR of 140.46. Pennington made our Small-School All-State Football team an has D-1s from Marshall to Austin Peay vying for his next-level services. Enjoy this feature.

We have tried to spread the jerky around the commonwealth and attempt to not double-award it too often. Some of these guys make it near impossible. The penultimate in high school football is gaining the inestimable privilege of getting to practice football on Thanksgiving. Well, there are 24 teams left who get this privilege and get to build this life-long memory. Half of the remaining will run out onto Kroger Field and play for a championship. Which 12 will it be?
