Dereon Crowe, has transferred to Owensboro Catholic

’25 linebacker from 5A Owensboro Senior has transferred to 2A Catholic; cleared for play

Dereon Crowe is a 6’2,” 200-pound specimen of a linebacker Catholic is not accustomed to aligning in its defensive 2nd level every day. Crowe played for Owensboro Senior last season and played very well. He will take his 4.65-second, 40-yard dash and 3.7 GPA to 2A Catholic for his senior season and he has already been cleared for play. This should be a case of an already rich and contending program at its classification finding a way to get a little bit richer.

The rich get richer and the poor get poorer is an oft-quoted saying attributed to the great Percy Bysshe Shelley in his work, A Defense of Poetry, published sometime in 1840. Shelley was an English writer considered a major player among the Romantic Poets.

Nobody knew who Shelley was until he was dead. He was somewhat of a radical both as a poet and in his political and social commentary.

The full text related, “To him that hath, more shall be given; and from him that hath not, the little that he hath shall be taken away. The rich have become richer, and the poor have become poorer; and the vessel of the State is driven between the Scylla and Charybdis of anarchy and despotism.”

Pretty radical stuff. Shelley may well have been talking about Catholic’s roster for the upcoming ’24 season unwittingly.

Dereon Crowe is a ’25 prospect who is 6’2,” and weighs in at 200-pounds. He runs a 4.65-second, 40-yard dash and carries a 3.7 GPA. All of this will suit him well in private, Catholic school studying college preparatory curriculum.

Crowe was both a reliable and spectacular performer for the Red Devils 5A defensive lineup in ’23. Crowe had 64-tackles, nine (9)-TFLs, three (3)-sacks, and a FR. Those numbers should increase significantly playing in 2A as opposed to 5A, though Catholic has shown a willingness to play any and all comers regardless of enrollment.

Catholic returns a number of weapons from off a roster which played for the 2A title, losing to Mighty Mayfield by 5-points in the title game, and returns a QB who completed 301 of his 434-passing attempts, for 4,743-yards and 68-TDs against only 6-picks. Catholic was 14-1 in ’23 and scored 721-points while allowing only 222-points over its 15-games.

Now they have added an all-state caliber, big-time linebacker. Oh how the rich just keep enriching themselves in this thing we call the KHSAA. Let the teeth gnashing and mournful lamenting begin in earnest.

  1. OCath will allow Dereon Crowe to show his talents on both sides of the ball. Look for them to be back at Kroger Field the first Saturday in December
