’25 Isaac Manning moves to ‘A’ receiver, Gunn will fire off in the third phase
Hopkins Central has a couple scrimmages upcoming and will see some mighty good talent against whom to measure. Jeremiah Jones, from Murray High, is rated a three-star, national recruit and in Kentucky’s “top-five” according to ESPN. Jones is committed to Nebraska. David Owens, a ’25 TE/DE, led the team a year ago in TFLs (14) and QB-Sacks (3.5). Both of these players will be measuring sticks against whom our own talent can calibrate its readiness.

The Scrimmages
The Storm has two scrimmages upcoming. The first scrimmage is tomorrow night (August 7, 2024) in Morton’s Gap. It is against Jeremiah Jones and his Murray High Tigers.
Murray is coming off a seven win season and Jones is ranked Kentucky’s fifth best prospect in its ’25 class. Jones is a 6’5,” 215-pound “Athlete” and is committed to Nebraska.
Russellville will be next Friday night. The Panthers were 2-9 a year ago but just three years removed from an appearance in the Class A title game. The Panthers (’21) lost that game to Pikeville High 30-27.
Russellville has a senior TE/DE named David Owens who has impressed. Owens, in ’23 led the team in TFLs (14) and QB-sacks (3.5).
Lineup shuffle
Isaac Manning, ’25, who also plays DB in addition to WR, will man the “A” receiver post for the Storm offense. In that post, the receiver isn’t just a down the field target but a ball carrier too. Zaden Parker (’25) and Sylas Gunn (’26) also auditioned for the role this offseason and all three looked equally impressive.
Gunn, one of the team’s most impressive athletes overall, will still lineup at corner but hasn’t been slotted for much offense as the season opener approaches. Gunn will be featured in the return game, returning both punts and kicks, a testament to his athletic prowess. Gunn also stars on the hardwood.
Overall, there is some nice weaponry at the team’s disposal as we crescendo into the season opener on the road against Caldwell. Football is a lot like chess. We have the pieces, we just need to insure we get those pieces on the board where they need to be for our continued success.
