Both teams enter game at 1-2, both need to even its season record
Crittenden was a game which got away from the Storm a year ago. The Storm went to Marion, Kentucky and lost 26-21 in ’23 in a game the Storm should have won if we are being candid. This year, the Rockets, who have many young players playing pivotal roles this, like last year; are a year better and may prove a year more formidable. This is a game the Storm can win. This may be a game the Storm “has to” win.

Last year's score: Crittenden County 26, Central 21 in Marion, KY
These two teams play often. Matter of fact, the two of them played a year ago in Marion, Kentucky.
The rivalry will be renewed tomorrow night in Morton’s Gap. The Storm will feature different personnel at different position groups than what the Rockets remember. The Rockets have most of their key personnel still eligible and many of them will be back a year from now too.
Central, the last time out:
Central managed 47-rushing yards, 69-passing yards, and 116-total yards against North’s defense in a 59-6 at the hands of its cross town rival. There is no one around Hopkins County’s central area pleased with that showing. However, with the current state of the respective rosters, no one can claim to be very surprised either.
Central’s defense allowed 377-yards rushing and 461-Total yards on the night. Allowing nearly 400-yards rushing, in a single contest, is a formula for defeat. That is an area which needs to get addressed and quickly.
Silas Gunn scored the lone TD on a KR. Gunn continues to impress with his versatility and all the ways he is athletically able to contribute to a team’s “bottom line.”
The 1-2 Storm comes back to the friendly confines to play a Crittenden County (1-2) team coming off a sketchy performance of its own, losing 42-12 to McCracken.
Let’s look at the Rockets:
Crittenden (2A, D1) rushed for -10 yards against the Mustangs and threw for 191-yards. The offense mustered 181-yards and that is how you get limited to 12-points and how you lose 42-12.
The Rockets allowed McCracken to rush for 184, pass for 175, and accumulate 359 total yards in scoring its 42-points. There is a saying in football that statistics indict you while the game film convicts you.
Quinn Summers (’26) seems to be settling in at QB for Crittenden. He threw for 191-yards and a pair of TDs against the 6A Mustangs with no thrown interceptions.
Summers is not a “runner.” He posted 16-yards on a pair of runs against the 2A contender.
Caden Howard (’26) caught 4-balls for 137-yards and a TD. That comes out to 34.25-yards a reception. We can’t let this guy get behind us like that this week or it will prove a very long night.
Brayden Poindexter (’26) has been the steadiest defender on the season, thus far. Poindexter has 23-tackles and 5-TFLs through the first three games. Dakota Sosh (’26) and CamRon Belcher (’25) have each picked a pass to pace the defensive back end.
How we see it:
There are those who will not like this prediction. This is certainly a winnable game.
We have run the numbers through the algorithm at the office in Owensboro and the computer says Crittenden has an 87% chance of winning this game and should win by 18-points.
I am going against the computer here. I am picking the Rockets to win by 10-points. I believe we will see an inspired effort from a Storm team which is making strides and getting better.
This isn’t the personnel the Storm enjoyed a year ago. Last year, we posted the most deceptive 4-6 a team could possibly manufacture. Fact is, we had the players to stay in virtually every game we played, win or lose.
We have lost some of those guys but we are building new ones. While rebuilding, Chris Manning and staff are doing a fine job bringing along this new crop of talent.
