Storm Warning: Mattox Allen

’29 skill guy has plenty of skills

Covey Bussell is the KYMSFA Regional Player of the Year. He figures to be an early contributor regardless of where he ends up attending. Bussell is also a 20-point a game scorer on the hardwood. To say he is a versatile athlete may be an understatement.

HB Lyon, Scouting Director, “KPGFootball”

Hopkins County, KY: Among the true privileges of getting to cover “The Storm” is attempting to forecast upcoming talent. Hoping a kid is zoned appropriately to attend this school or that who was the Kentucky Middle School Athletic Association’s (KYMSFA) division two, regional player of the year in football is quite a boon and good work if you can get it.

Those guys tend to play early. It isn’t easy to gain selection as the KYMSFA’s regional player of the year, let me assure you.

JaCoveion Bussell has an interesting “given” name. Most of the kids at Browning Springs Middle just call him “Covey.”

Bussell is stuffed to the brim with athletic skills. First of all, Bussell is a star on the hardwood too.

In addition to what he does on the gridiron, Covey averages 20-points a game for the middle school basketball team to go along with four (4)-steals and seven (7) assists.

On the football field, Bussell played safety and receiver for Coach Tyrone Gregory, who was selected Region Two’s, KYMSFA Coach of the Year. We aren’t surprised by this selection either.

Bussell led the team in INT’s. Bussell was second in receiving yards. Bussell was a three (3)-phase contributor to his team’s bottom line.

“Covey” has plenty of swag but an equally big heart

If you look at the kid’s intangibles, the production begins to make more sense. While only 5’6,” 120-pounds, the kid clips off forty yards in 4.8-seconds.

Let me ensure for you from someone who has timed thousands of middle school 40’s, 4.8-seconds for an eighth grader, especially a 5’6,” eighth grader is flying!

This kid will only get faster as he continues to develop. Wait until he finds out what a back squat can do.

We talked with Bussell’s middle school coach Tyrone Gregory. Coach Gregory couldn’t be more effusive in his praise for his young phenom.

Covey has plenty of swag but an equally big heart. Bussell is all effort, a good student, and refuses to ever surrender.

While we are on the “good student” portion of the article, we feel this merits individual attention. Bussell carries a 3.6-GPA, which is critical.

The term is “student-athlete.” People get too focused on the second part and tend to gloss over part one.

These future colleges and universities who are writing down Bussell’s name as they read this article are colleges and universities. They will care, trust us.

Until then, Bussell has to attend and play sports for his next “stop” along his academic path. We know plenty of schools eyeing this guy hoping to be the next rung on his ladder. Those programs hoping he enrolls are all over western Kentucky, a few of which are in Hopkins county.
