Storm Warning: It is a ‘new season’ and the Storm will travel to Munfordville to face the Hart County Raiders… @LasatersCoffee, @Ale8One, @bigassfans, @khsaafootball, @KyHighFootball, @HopkinsCentral, @_CoachManning

Storm Warning

The Storm ran into a buzz saw in Marion and the trip to Munfordville promises an even tougher road

The regular season is over and the way the 2-7 campaign ended, with a pair of losses leading into the playoffs, good riddance! The wonderful thing about any playoff sport is the rebirth. The playoff is its own season. Win five straight and you are state champion, regardless of what you did during the year. We have seen this before and in the 3A classification. In 2021, the Belfry Pirates lost six (6)-regular season games, got on a playoff role winning five (5) straight, and left Kroger field with the crown. This can happen to any team, at any time, you just have to BELIEVE!

Morton’s Gap, KY: This past weekend, The Storm limped into Marion, KY coming off a 45-12 loss to (maybe) 3A’s best football team, Murray High (10-0). Truthfully, Central played better than some thought it would and it gave the Storm some hope it would travel to Marion and give Crittenden something to fear.

The trip to Marion didn’t go as planned. The Storm dropped that game 56-21 in a game which was closer than that but ballooned resulting from some unfortunate breaks, calls, and turnovers. Anyway, we are not likely to see any competition any better than Murray nor much better than Crittenden (7-3).

Hart County (8-2) awaits the Storm in Munfordville. The Raiders are coached by Chad Griffin, a guy who has quickly become one of the hotter commodities in the coaching market across the KHSAA.

We will review the Crittenden game. Then we will move on to the tough road ahead.

Sylas Gunn (’26) will be sorely missed when his eligibility exhausts. We hear Gunn may be heading to Danville to play, next season, for Centre’s Colonels. If that is true, the Colonels will be getting one of the better football players in the commonwealth.

Gunn ran for 98-yards and a TD against Crittenden County. On defense, where he is projected top play in college, Gunn registered 13-tackles against Crittenden County (7-3).

Isac Earl (’26) may have turned in one of his better performances on the season. As one Storm fan put it to KPGFootball, if Earl touches it usually good things happen.

Earl picked a pass and took it 57-yards to the house. Earl also forced a fumble and registered a pair of tackles to go along with his catching a pair of passes.

Kaijain Hayes (’28) caught three passes, registered 6-tackles. Glenis McKnight (’27) registered 8-tackles and a TFL to go with his FR.

Now, let's turn our attention to Hart Co. High...

Hart County, 8-2, lost by only four (4) points to 4A Logan County (8-2) but lost substantially (35-6) to Glasgow (10-0). Losing by that margin to Glasgow is hardly an indictment as Glasgow features one of the commonwealth’s better defensive teams in the KHSAA at any classification of play.

Hart County enters the game with Central coming off a 14-13 win over 5A Grayson County last weekend. They have several players for whom an opponent must account.

Hart County has been one of western KY’s premier 3A programs since Chad Griffin’s arrival. Griffin is rumored in the mix these days at about every prestigious coaching vacancy existing across the Bluegrass.

Jacob Shoulders (’26), against 5A Grayson County which the Raiders prevailed 14-13, threw a TD pass and a pick. On defense, where Shoulders also plays, Shoulders intercepted a pass.

Kannan Allen (’26) rushed for over 100-yards and a TD while catching a pair of passes including another TD. Allen scored 12 of the team’s 14-points.

Ryan Hawkins (’26) is a reliable PK. He nailed both of his PATs for the other two points scored. As the margin was a single point, that demonstrates the importance of a “reliable” place-kicker.

KPGFootball says: Like we said a week ago, we would love to pick the Storm to win this game, particularly as it is the first round of the KHSAA playoffs...We are taking Hart County over Central 42-13

Sylas Gunn, Isac Earl, and our senior class can win this game for us if we get out of their way!

Friday Night Fletch

Central is a better football team than its record would indicate. Hart County is a team which is annually in the 3A title chase.

To be the type program we all are striving to be, we have to be able to win the games we should and sneak up on a few along the way. This is a game that, should we win, would make quite a statement. It would make us a “hot team” in these upcoming playoffs!

Fort Campbell over North Hopkins (’24) and Owensboro Catholic over Bowling Green High (to open this year) are the type games which have shown us any team can win, on any given night. That works in our favor for this upcoming game. This weekend will be the Storm’s time to get on a “second season” run and shock the commonwealth of Kentucky.

The Storm needs the fans to turn out and travel well to Munfordville. We need to be both loud and conspicuous.

Our team has to show up. The players have to show up and so do the fans! See you guys at the game.

It just seems, week after week, the Storm gets some team on a heater. Well, Crittenden County is a team on a heater, having won four (4) straight coming into our game on Morton’s Gap. Crittenden arrives 6-3 and having beaten Caldwell, Trigg, and Fort Campbell in prior weekends. One thing is for sure, Gaige Courtney, a former Crittenden County star in his day, will have the Rockets ready to launch. This game presents another major opportunity, if we can seize it. We’re already in the playoffs and have an upcoming trip to Hart County for round one. A win over Crittenden might give the boys from Munfordville a little something to ponder.

Morton’s Gap, KY: This past week’s game, played in Murray, at the home of the best team in 3A on the western end, is how you can tell Sylas Gunn is a football player, star, and next level candidate. Anybody can show up against a bunch of Joe Slappies. It is the player who shows up against the tough rosters, laden with talent, who really demonstrates “what’s up” around the KHSAA.

Sylas Gunn (’26) threw for 79-yards and a TD, rushed for 119-yards and a TD; scored half the points (Kaijain Hayes (’28) scored the other six); registered 9-tackles and picked a pass Gunn returned 20-yards. Gunn was one of the few players for whom the Tiger staff was forced to account and Gunn still had a very big game.

The game with Murray was among the best games of the season for Gunn. Well, it is hard to say that, Gunn kind of shows up every week, every game. This particular performance came against top-flight talent and players playing for one of the KHSAA’s better football teams.

Gunn wasn’t completely alone out there against Murray’s Tigers. Jacovian Bussell (’29)caught a pair of passes. This game was among Bussell’s best this season and really showed his willingness and ability to shoulder more burden.

Mattox Allen (’27) resisted seven (7) tackles as did Glenis McKnight (’27). Outside these few players, the production was right scarce. We were playing an undefeated (9-0, after beating us) Murray team which beat us 45-12.

It was not the outcome for which we hoped. It could have been worse. Murray is the 24th best team in the KHSAA regardless of classification.

Now, let's turn our attention to Crittenden County High...

Crittenden County has had a real up and down year. They lost the first two and have now rebounded to win six (6) of the last seven (7).

Crittenden has been one of western KY’s premier 1A programs before the realignment. Now the Rockets are 2A and doing just fine, thank you very much. This past week’s win over a Caldwell team which entered the game at 6-2 is an indication of the improved play.

Quinn Summers, ’26 QB, has had quite the year. He has thrown for 1,449-yards and 22-TDs and rushed for 386-yards and another three (3) scores. Summers leads the club in passing, passing TDs, rushing yards, is third in scoring, and even plays a little defense.

Sophomore place kicker, Mitchell Brown, has been solid. The ’28 prospect has converted on nearly 92% (22 of 24) of his PATs.

Freshman, Joel Bumpus, has a penchant for big plays. The ’29 prospect has two (2)-FFs, two (2)-FRs, and five (5) TFLs spread among his 38-tackles. He has done all of this in only six (6) games of PT.

Brayden Poindexter (’26) leads the club with 93-tackles and 7-TFLs while Braydin Brandsasse(’26) has 46-stops and 8-TFLs with one (1) of the team’s three (3) QB-sacks. Dakota Sosh (’26) and Eli Lovell (’28) have three (3) INTS each.

KPGFootball says: We would love to pick the Storm to win this game, particularly being at home, but our minds are trumping our hearts...We are taking Crittenden over Central 35-28

Sylas Gunn, Isac Earl, and our senior class can win this game for us if we get out of their way!

Central is a better football team than its record would indicate. Crittenden County ain’t no slouch (pardon the grammar).

To be the type program we all are striving to be, we have to be able to win the games we should and sneak up on a few along the way. This is a game that, should we win, would make quite a statement. It would make us a “hot team” heading into the upcoming playoffs!

Fort Campbell over North Hopkins (’24) and Owensboro Catholic over Bowling Green High (to open this year) are the type games which have shown us any team can win, on any given night. That works in our favor for this upcoming game. This weekend will be the Storm’s time to get on a closing run and shock the commonwealth of Kentucky.

The Storm needs the fans to turn out and fill the stadium on Morton’s Gap. We need to be both loud and conspicuous.

Our team has to show up. The players have to show up and so do the fans! See you guys at the game.
