Storm Warning

’26 ATH contributes to the ‘bottom line’ in a variety of ways

Sylas Gunn is an athlete about whom we have been quite high. He has good size, plus length, and is a versatile athlete capable of contributing to a team’s bottom line a variety of ways. We have learned he is fairly proficient on the hardwood as a basketball player to boot. This kid’s stock will continue to rise as he adds skills to his ever burgeoning quiver going forward.

Morton’s Gap, KY: We have chosen versatility as foremost among our offseason themes this year. One reason is our viewing, first hand, the importance college recruiters place on recruiting athletes who are, frankly, athletic.

No one in the western-Kentucky area is significantly more athletic than the Gunn-Slinger from Morton’s Gap. We’re discussing Gunn…Sylas Gunn!

Gunn was the very picture of versatility this past Fall. Gunn completed a handful of passes, rushed for close to 100-yards from scrimmage, and caught a pair of passes contributing on offense.

Defensively, Gunn’s play was significantly more lethal. Gunn registered 44-tackles and led the back-third of the defense with 4-picks.

Gunn hasn’t been taking it easy this offseason. Gunn is on the varsity basketball team and his play has been coming on of late. Gunn has a season/career high of 11-points scored not long ago against Caldwell County.

For the year, Gunn has averaged 3.9-pts. per game, shot 50.8% from the field, knocked down 30% of his threes, shot 76.9% from the charity stripe, and averaged 3.4 rebounds per game. That sounds to me like quite a bit of hardwood production for a sophomore.

Gunn is 6’1,” 165-pounds and shuttles in 4.62-seconds. This means he moves well in space, has good height, and enviable length. He doesn’t look finished in the growing department either so there is (literally) no telling where this frame finishes.

While Gunn is capable of playing QB and WR, we see this prospect similarly to how many recruiters see him. We believe this guy is a safety going forward who needs to improve speed and explosion every time such a chance presents.

Don’t you worry about the old Gunn-slinger, however. He’s in the right place to get the instruction and development needed to take him a long way in whatever game he may choose for the next level.
