’25 defender came up big at the best possible time
Ryan Gillion is a ’25 kid who is 6’2,” 245-pounds of production wherever he may be needed. Gillion has played some fullback, he has played some guard (offense), and he has played some along the first two levels of the defense. His Flyers needed everything he could give them in the semis in Frankfort, Kentucky. Gillion didn’t disappoint as his efforts helped stake his team to a 14-10 victory which has sent them to Kroger Field and a date against Paducah Tilghman.

Lexington, KY: Eddie James has had his Flyers flying mighty high the last half decade or so. The Flyers seem to yearly contend and made an appearance in the Finals just four years ago (2020). The Flyers lost to Boyle County in OT, 31-28 on that occasion.

James squad made the semi-state in 2021, ’22, and ’23, before making the championship game this year. We would term that “regularly challenging” for a title, wouldn’t you?
The point is, the Flyers have been knocking on the door. Will they finally knock it down this season? They look poised to do just that.
Franklin County had a tall order just to get to this championship game. Last weekend, the Flyers had to solve the Covington Catholic riddle. The Colonels in blue were fresh off an upset over four-time, defending 4A champions, Boyle County. Boyle was a thought to be unbeatable team who had been cruising along in ’24 both undefeated and nationally ranked.
The Flyers had the answer to this riddle. Apparently the answer was Rylan Gillion.
Gillion had 5 tackles, 1.5 TFLs, and a QB-sack against Covington Catholic
KHSAA Statistical Website
Gillion was brilliant in his play against the Colonels. The defensive lineman had five (5) tackles, one and a half (1.5) TFLs, and the team’s only QB-sack. Those numbers are huge in what amounted to a defensive struggle for survival. Franklin County came out on top of this struggle 14-10.

KPGFootball's Prediction: Franklin County 30, Paducah Tilghman 28
