’28 DL among Kentucky’s very best

"In every person there is a sun. Just let them shine."
-Socrates, 470 BC to 399 BC

We have seen the 6’0,” 270-pounder (Kolin Baker) before ranked among Kentucky’s top-five DL in the KHSAA among his classmates. Baker is an accomplished heavy weight wrestler competing at the 285-pound weight class. The kid carries a 3.95-GPA. The future is so bright for this young player we wouldn’t be surprised for him to start donning shades. Socrates is often attributed to the saying we have above quoted. While we really don’t know whether it was Socrates or Plato or some other philosopher, we do know the saying appears particularly appropriate to Trinity High’s Kolin Baker.

Louisville, KY: The great philosopher, Socrates, once wrote, “In every person there is a sun. Just let them shine.” There is no data supporting it was first uttered or written by Socrates but it gets regularly attributed to him so who are we to break with the trend?

Who said it, or didn’t say it, hardly takes away from the statement’s merit. Every person, when given an appropriate opportunity, has an innate ability to shine like a bright sun; if we just get out of the way. If we just let them.

This is true of Trinity High’s young defensive lineman, Kolin Baker. Baker is ready to shine, all we have to do is get out of his way and put him in the lineup.

Baker is 6’0,” and is listed as a 270-pounder. We believe he may well be heavier than that. Baker is a heavyweight wrestler who grapples at the 285-pound weight class.

Baker is accomplished as a football prospect. Baker is accomplish as a varsity wrestler.

Baker knows all about leverage, explosion, gaining and maintaining physical advantages over opponents, and using the gifts God gave him to benefit his position group, his unit, and his team. We have seen prospect lists already listing Baker among the KHSAA’s top five DL in Kentucky’s 2028 graduating class.

We will go along with that ranking. We fully expect it to be proven true before Baker’s high school playing days are through.

As for stats generated while playing in 2025, Trinity’s 30th overall state title in football, Baker’s production was meager but deceptively. You can’t just judge a Trinity defender by his tackle stats.

Defensive linemen are asked to do a ton of things. These “other things” often net tackles for players at other slots, other levels.

Jahbarri Frost had 29-tackles and he made all-state and signed with Eastern Michigan

Friday Night Fletch

Jahbarri Frost only had 29-tackles this past season. His meager tackle numbers didn’t dampen anyone’s assessment of his play his senior year, his ability, or even his recruit-ability.

Frost was considered the KHSAA’s top defensive lineman in the ’26 class, made every All-State team in the commonwealth (ours included), and signed with Eastern Michigan in the FBS, Division I.

As for Baker, he registered eight (8) tackles with a TFL in 14-games. The important thing is Baker’s seeing the field, and varsity pay rotation, in 14-games on Kentucky’s most loaded, 6A roster.

Baker is a kid from whom you will continue to hear going forward. He is a big-bodied, quick-twitch monster particularly suited for deployment along Trinity’s interior defensive front.

Yessir, Baker is ready to show us what he is capable of doing. Baker is ready to shine like a bright, glowing sun. All we have to do is get the heck out of his way!
