’26 RB is beginning to fill some big shoes around the Blackcats’ program

When talking Prestonsburg High football there aren’t but a few legends who stand out amongst the rest. There was the great Doc Ferrell who was a star player at UK and walked through the town as its head football coach, dressed to the nines, like he owned the place (and may well have). The late Phillip Haywood whose stardom transcends any one city or county in the Bluegrass. Last but not least, Hall of Fame football coach and former Prestonsburg shoe-shine boy, Dan Goble, who lives now in Hopkinsville, Kentucky keeping alive the legends of Prestonsburg past. We think you may add the name Kain Patton to this burgeoning list of Blackcats greats.

Big Ass Fans is so much more than just a gigantic fan. It is gigantic quality, gigantic performance, and a gigantic commitment to reliability and innovation. Its size is far from the only selling point about our product. Our product is a Kentucky Comfort Creator…and, these days, isn’t that exactly what Kentucky needs?

Prestonsburg, KY: Prestonsburg likes to pound the rock son. In their last game with Hazard, we don’t have them lifting skyward a single, solitary spiral. Real men pound the pill, baby; is the sentiment shared by numerous mountain programs.

That is what Kain Patton (’26) and his Blackcats did this past Saturday…pound the pill. As a team, the Blackcats ran for 376-yards on 46-carries scoring three (3) rushing TDs comprising all but five points of the scoring on the afternoon.

Prestonsburg ran its record to 3-0. In so doing, the Pestonsburg team beat, perhaps, the best team on its schedule and appears headed toward a regular season 10-0.

As for Saturday, the game with Hazard felt much closer than the final margin suggested. The game was a play here/a call there sort of affair.

Patton carried the ball 19-times on the afternoon., gaining 227-yards and scoring a pair of ground scores. Patton led the team in scoring. The team didn’t attempt a forward pass.

On the year, Patton has gained 537-yards, on 46-carries, with 6-TDs. Patton leads the team with nine (9)-receptions, for 153-yards and a TD. Patton, through the first three, is 2nd on the team in scoring, and leads the team in tackles (21) with 4-TFLs, and a sack.

P-burg has won its first three games and has done so rather convincingly. The Blackcats have thumped Betsy Layne, posting a 69-piece on the Bobcats; dominated Shelby Valley (44-7) before besting Hazard 23-9. Prestonsburg was 11-2 in ’24 and lost to Somerset in the Regional Championship.

Somerset is 1A now. That is a hurdle they won’t have to cross.

Patton has rushed for 537-yards and six (6) TDs in three (3) games

KHSAA Statistical Website

Prestonsburg has quite a few really good players on the roster. Logan Stumbo (’26) is among the better defenders in his classification of play. His statistics have taken a hit from the opposing “scout” constantly recommending teams run away from him. Other guys have stepped up; other guys are making a difference.

Looking forward, we don’t know who can play with this Prestonsburg team this side of the playoffs. Martin County (2-1) is the only game with a team presently possessing a winning record remaining on the regular season schedule.

One thing is clear. Having a gifted, all-state caliber RB like Kain Patton around won’t hurt the club’s 10-regular season wins efforts. Three and zero, coming out of the Hazard game, in the won-loss column ain’t a bad place from which to start either!
