Is Evan Brown (@evanbrown70) from @StXTigersFB (@StXTigerSports, @stxtigers) headed to the Ivy League?

You are probably going to find this crazy; but, there are those out there who actually believe the whole point of this “football-thing” is to use it as a conduit to a great education and successful and fulfilling professional career off the field. Wow, I know, crazy, right?

You can list among the number of the crazies one Evan Brown of St. Xavier high school in Louisville, Kentucky. Brown, who is a long, tall, drink of water at 6-4, 260-pounds, has positioned himself nicely (4.5 GPA, 27 ACT, 1150 SAT) for a chance at the Ivory Halls of the Ivy League. At least, Harvard thinks so, as they have offered the Class of 2021-player.

How good is Brown? Well, if you are like Coach Lyon here, you will hit the link we have provided under the young man’s picture and judge that for yourself.

If you wish to take other people’s word for it, lets put it this way…He’s No. 3, commonwealth-wide on BoyleCo’s Top-30 preseason list of Kentucky HS offensive linemen and he’s still very much in play for an offer from instate FBS, power-5’s, UK and UofL.

So…pretty darn good. We’re kidding, he’s fabulous.

So what is Brown going to do? Does he spurn the hometown Cardinals for the Crimson of Harvard? Would it be so bad were he to do that?

Now this is where one has to take a serious assessment of what the end game is. If the end game is to get in the NFL, then the play is UK or UofL. Both of those teams provide an infinitely better chance at selection and an NFL career than Harvard (FCS-level, by the way).

However, according to NCAA.org, “fewer than 2 percent of NCAA student-athletes go on to be professional athletes. In reality, most student-athletes depend on academics to prepare them for life after college.”

“Education is important. There are nearly half a million NCAA student-athletes, and most of them will go pro in something other than sports.”

So, if you are one of the over 98-percent of the NCAA athletes headed for the competitive job-market, which sheep-skin do you want in hand? Would you like to have one with either Power-5 school’s name emblazoned at the top or would you like yours to read “Harvard University, Veritas (Latin for truth, and Harvard is the truth).”

According to information we were able to access right on-line (So you know it isn’t “Fake,” lol), Harvard graduates make between $70,000 and $89,000, first year. UofL first years make $42,200 and UK grads earn approximately $43,800. I would assume NFL rookies, together with other pro-sports leagues would factor into both of the Louisville and Kentucky averages, so…

In the end, what will Evan Brown, one of Kentucky’s very finest down-fivers do? Will he opt for the bright lights and big-time possibilities associated with Power-5 football or will he play the percentages and take his game to the Ivy League’s guarantee of higher starting salary and promising, off-the-field, career arc?

We don’t know. Isn’t it nice the young man, both on and off the field, has worked himself into a position to even get to make this decision? Way to go Evan Brown, we are very proud of you!
